| David Loiseau gets charity fight, headlines MFL 2 to benefit Haitians David Loiseau gets charity fight, headlines MFL 2 to benefit Haitian earthquake victims | MMAjunkie.com Quote:
After his pleas for a charity fight initially fell on deaf ears, David Loiseau has finally secured a bout – the proceeds of which will benefit victims of the January earthquake in Haiti.
Loiseau (18-9), a former top UFC middleweight contender, headlines "Mixed Fight League 2: Battleground" against Isidro Gonzales (16-13) on Feb. 27 at the Complexe Sportif Claude-Robillard in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
The event also features UFC vets Marvin Eastman and Jon Murphy, and $2 from each ticket sale will be donated to the American Red Cross to benefit the Haitian relief efforts.
MFL 2 currently features 10 bouts with Loiseau in the featured spot against Gonzales (who's fought notables such as Joe Riggs, Carlos Condit, Josh Burkman, Trevor Prangley and others).
Loiseau, a popular French-Canadian fighter whose family comes from Haiti, recently said it took him two days to receive confirmation from his mother that his grandparents and uncles living in Haiti were safe, though members of his extended family weren't so fortunate.
"We lost my grandmother's first cousin," Loiseau recently told MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com). "She was older; her house collapsed. She didn't get out in time. My best friend's mother, who was living in Montreal and visiting Haiti – she was like a mother to all of us in the neighborhood, we all grew up together – she passed in the earthquake."
And though he wanted to find a fight to do his part to help the victims, he knows he can also raise awareness in the MMA community with his fight.
"Most people, they lost their house, and they're sleeping either in a park or in their car," he said. "There's a lot of dead bodies in the streets. Even though there's a lot of help, still a lot of people are looking for food."
The MFL 2 card currently includes:
•David Loiseau (18-9) vs. Isidro Gonzales (16-13)
•Steve Bosse (6-1) vs. Marvin Eastman (16-12-1)
•Bruno Hosier (3-0) vs. Tom Murphy (5-0)
•Sébastien Garguier (5-3) vs. Martin Grandmont (9-4)
•Derek Gauthier (5-0) vs. Jesse Ronson (1-0)
•Mark Fraser (1-4-1) vs. Dimitri Waardenburg (3-4)
•Louis-Philippe Carles (6-1) vs. Chris Vorano (3-5)
•Justin Poissant (0-0) vs. Nordine Taleb (1-1)
•Pierrot Marcoux (0-1) vs. Lyndon Whitlock (0-0)
•Joey Gambino (1-0) vs. Louis-Philippe Gauthier (0-0)

| I don't know who will agree with me but I think the UFC really dropped the ball here. Just for the selfishness of the huge promotion they would of received. The UFC would of drawn more people in and therefor more money than the MFL will. The UFC could of done some one fight contracts for the fighters appearing and thrown something together like with the Fight for the Troops card that raised over 4 million dollars. The UFC doesn't have the obligation to do anything for anyone but it would of benefited them in gigantic ways.

Dana White and the Fertitta's don't care about Haitians.
What's worse is no one cared about Pakistan's earthquake in 2005 that killed 80,000 and left 3.5 million homeless....the media barely covered it for more than a couple days.
Because Haiti is close and there are a lot of former Haitian refuges and immigrants communities in a number of cities in North America.
What sucks is the UFC is catering to the people that buy their PPVs. I would say that there are a lot more Americans that buy UFC PPV events that are in the armed services or have family or friends in the armed services.....more of those fans then fans who have friends or family in Haiti.
Montreal has a pretty big Haitian community, most of the taxi drivers in Montreal are either old french white guys or Haitians and they have Haitian events in the community. It is a much bigger deal in Montreal than in Nevada.
Kudos to Bill Gates and his wife who donate a lot of money every year to people around the world, and they put huge money to Haiti....he should be pushing it in Steve Jobs face (Apple guy)
The WWE have donated a ton of time and money to a lot of charities and even they have a Haiti relief fund.
Until the UFC becomes a publicly traded company, I don't see them doing anything that doesn't directly benefit themselves....sucks....but that is how I see it. Even doing the charity shit for the armed services, helped bring them guys like Brian Stann and helped popularize and bring MMA to the Army.
I wish it were different.
As for The Crow, I hope he can get back in the winners circle....hopefully wins by KO ro submission and it doesn't go to decision. The Crow can be tentative and likes to counter his opponents, I hope he fights with a little more anger and maybe fights with his heart on his sleeve.
