UFC's Martin Kampmann posts pic of facial cut, hoping for pre-summer return (Updated) | MMAjunkie.com

MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com) first reported earlier this week that an injury has forced Martin Kampmann out of a UFC 111 bout with Ben Saunders and that he has been replaced by Jake Ellenberger.

To assure no one doubt's the sincerity of Kampmann's injury, the welterweight fighter recently posted a picture of a nasty facial cut that required stitches.

Although unable to compete at the March 27 UFC 111 event in New Jersey, Kampmann hopes to return rather quickly and is aiming for a spot on a May card, his manager, Ken Pavia, today told MMAjunkie.com.

Kampmann (16-3 MMA, 7-2 UFC), a former middleweight contender, looked to improve to 4-1 in the UFC's welterweight division when he faced dangerous striker Saunders (8-1-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC). Instead, Ellenberger (22-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC) will fill in short notice after picking up his first career UFC win last month at UFC 108.

Despite the gruesome cut, Pavia said Kampmann initially wanted to try to fight through it.

"We had to literally tell him he couldn't fight Saunders like that," Pavia said. "He didn't want to pull out (of the fight)."

Kampmann suffered the cut while training for the upcoming bout; he shot in on opponent for a takedown but took a knee to the head, which opened the gash. Kampmann plans to keep his training camp in full swing in anticipation of a new booking.

He's hoping for a return by late May, but Pavia said his camp will assure Kampmann's cut is healed so there's no potential for longterm damage.

i take it he doesnt spar with headgear but its okay maybe he should fight fitch or swick instead, saunders isnt ready in my opinion hes loosing motmentum rapidly needs to get in there and erase that lose to daley

I really don't understand your post. You say Saunders isn't ready but he just Ko'd a fighter who has never been stopped and Kampmann just beat Volkmann by submission. Plus Fitch is fighting Alves and Swick just got put to sleep. So I'm alittle confused.

well hopefully when he is healed and ready to go again it will be Kampmann vs Paulo Thiago!! that would be an awesome fucking fight!
