So, first Filho drops out and Leites takes his place, then Filho comes back, now he apparently misses his plane. Check out the following articles for the info. Bunch of fighters have dropped out and the cards in only a few hours...
Paulo Filho back to Bitetti Combat 6: Monday 22nd of February 2010 |
In one week Bitetti Combat changes its main event for the second time. After revealing that Thales Leites would replace Paulo Filho in the fight against Yuki Sasaki, the promoters now confirm that the former Pride fighter is back to fight the Japanese.
“Sasaki said he’d only fight against Paulo. Knowing that, Paulo said that he wants to fight now. He’s going to a brawl,” Bitetti confirmed. And Leites, a former UFC title contender, will also fight in the card, still without opponent revealed. Stay tuned!

Paulo Filho back to Bitetti Combat 6 :: TATAME
Bedlam at Bitetti: Monson removed from Feb. 25 card, Filho and Washington miss weigh ins by Jesse Holland on Feb 25, 2010 |
Seems like the UFC isn't the only promotion to be snake-bitten on the heels of a major event.
Somebody on the Bitetti roster must have gone all Bobby Brady and unearthed an ancient Tiki when they got to Brazil, because the bad luck continues to befall the Feb. 25 fight card just hours before showtime.
Cocky and stocky submission specialist Jeff Monson has been scratched from the Bitetti Combat 6 event after encountering some issues in the U.S. and was unable to make the flight to Brazil. Fortunately event organizers have a deep pool of alternates, as Joaquim "Mamute" Ferreira has agreed to step in and face Glover Teixeira.
Also missing in action are Paulo Filho and Rico Washington, who Tatame.com reports had "flight trouble" and could not make the scheduled weigh-in time but as of now are still expected to appear at tonight's event.
Adding insult to injury (or insult AND injury in this case), Fabio Maldonado suffered a late hand injury and will not be able to compete against Guto Inocente. No word on a replacement at this time.
This comes just days after Filho backed out of the event -- only to rejoin it when original opponent Yuki Sasaki refused to fight "Ely's" replacement Thales Leites. The troubled Brazilian eventually agreed to return and Leties will now face Rico Washington.
Assuming Washington can get to the fight card on weight and on time.

This is why Filho will never fight for the UFC.
