| Alessio Sakara vs. James Irvin promoted, completes UFC on Versus 1 main card Alessio Sakara vs. James Irvin promoted, completes UFC on Versus 1 main card | MMAjunkie.com Quote:
A potential slugfest between Alessio Sakara (14-7 MMA, 5-4 UFC) and James Irvin (14-5 MMA, 4-4 UFC) has been promoted to main-card status at UFC on Versus 1 and brings to four the number of televised bouts for the event, MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com) has confirmed with event officials.
UFC on Versus 1 takes place Sunday March 21 at the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colo.
It's the first UFC card televised live on the cable channel, and light heavyweights Brandon Vera and Jon Jones fight in the evening's main event.
Irvin has been absent from the octagon since July 2008, when current UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva knocked him out in 61 seconds in the promotion's first stab at counter-promotion, UFC Fight Night 14, which countered Affliction Entertainment's debut event.
Irvin's career to date has been plagued by injuries. This past May, he was forced to withdraw from a fight at UFC 98 against Drew McFedries due to a knee injury. Then, three months later, he re-injured the knee in preparation for a fight against Wilson Gouveia at UFC 102 and was benched until early this year. Irvin lost in his octagon debut at UFC 51 but later sealed his spot in highlight-reel heaven when he knocked out Terry Martin with a vicious flying knee at UFC 54.
Sakara, meanwhile, is recently mended from an undisclosed injury that forced him to withdraw from a scheduled fight with Rousimar Palhares at The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale this past December. Prior to that, the Italian put together his first consecutive UFC wins by besting Thales Leites on points at UFC 101 and knocking out Joe Vedepo by head kick at UFC Fight Night 15. The American Top Team fighter looks to make it three in a row when he meets Irvin.
The full UFC on Versus 1 card now includes:
MAIN CARD
•Jon Jones vs. Brandon Vera
•Junior Dos Santos vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
•Paul Buentello vs. Cheick Kongo
•James Irvin vs. Alessio Sakara
PRELIMINARY CARD
•Shannon Gugerty vs. Clay Guida
•Eliot Marshall vs. Vladimir Matyushenko
•John Howard vs. Daniel Roberts
•Chase Gormley vs. Brendan Schaub
•Julio Paulino vs. Mike Pierce
•Jason Brilz vs. Eric Schafer
•Darren Elkins vs. Duane "Bang" Ludwig** - Not officially announced
| Of course I gotta go with my boy Alessio but in all fairness, James Irvin is coming off a long layoff and I see it effecting him a lot.

Yea i can see Sakara taking this one too. Both are bangers but I've always felt that Irvin can be a little late to pull the trigger. If this doesnt end up in a KO, which it most likley will, I'd pick Sakara by UD
No matter what , this fight has "stand up war" written all over it. In fact the whole main card does.
Sakara/Irvin=Slugfest with two heavy handed Mw's Buentello/Kongo= MAJOR slugfest with two very heavy handed Hw's JDS/GG= Another Slugfest. JDS should have the striking edge so GG will be the only one looking for a TD in this fight, and thats only if the going gets rough. Jones/Vera= Potential slugfest. Both are no joke when it comes to the stand up game but I think this fight will hit the mat more then any other fight on the Main Card.
Good fight to add to a pretty damn good card if you ask me

they are both coming off of layoffs. Sakara hasn't fought in 6 months. Granted Irvin's layoff was dubiously longer, Sakara isn't exactly fresh off the frying pan. I wouldn't doubt that Irvin is gonna come back with a vengence. If you just got busted for steroids and obliterated by Anderson Silva, you would expect that the UFC might not have too much interest left in your career. So look for Irvin to be ready. I still expect that Sakara can take him handily, but I wouldn't overlook Irvin.

Sakara I love you like a brother but damn do you have a life? Seemsl ike you LIVE on MMAJunkie.com haha...just breaking balls, bro!
this soundsl ike a good fight, both guys (usually) bring fireworks and show heart so I think this is a good "banger".
I wish they are going to announce what the heck is going on with the April 17th card though, I mean why announce that they';re going to counter SF: Nashville and not deiver. Doesn't seem like UFC, unless they are bluffing for some weird reason, hmmmm.

Hopefully it's a stand up fight as the Sandman usealy doesn't so much of a fight on the ground. I still like to watch his fights though. Suprized to see Guida on the undercard, but if any time allows his fight probely will be showen.
