| Thiago vs. Kampmann In The Works For UFC 115 - THIAGO VS. KAMPMANN IN THE WORKS FOR UFC 115- MMA WEEKLY - Mixed Martial Arts & UFC News, Photos, Rankings & more Quote:
The welterweights are ready to do battle north of the border.
The latest match-up that has been confirmed for the upcoming UFC 115 card set to take place in Vancouver will pit Brazilian stand-out, Paulo Thiago, against Danish heavy hitter Martin Kampmann in a 170lb fight on the night's main card.
The bout was originally reported by the Las Vegas Sun, and independent sources have confirmed the bout to MMAWeekly.com on Tuesday as well.
Originally scheduled to fight at UFC 111, Martin Kampmann was forced off the card after suffering a gruesome cut during training that required several stitches, and for the Xtreme Couture fighter to forgo sparring while letting the cut heal.
Now ready to get back to action, Kampmann moves from Ben Saunders to an equally dangerous opponent in Paulo Thiago.
Since making a splash in his debut fight knocking out Josh Koscheck, Paulo Thiago has put the welterweight division on notice that his first fight was not a fluke. Just recently Thiago dispatched of Koscheck's teammate, Mike Swick, with a stunning 2nd round submission by D'arce choke to pick up his third win in the Octagon.
The battle between the two welterweights is expected to fill part of the pay-per-view card that is also expected to feature "Ultimate Fighter" coaches, Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz, in their third fight together.

I think Paulo takes this...he has the ko power and is bjj should b superior to kampmanns
Paulo is 3-1 in his ffirst 4 fights in the ufc but does anyone else feel he has been more impressive than hardy's first 4 fights in the ufc? Hardy won a coupl splits dec and had one ko over an unknown n then got a hug fest victory over swick yet Paulo had 2 huge finishes over top ww and almost choked out fitch a few times in their match

I have Kampmann via 29-28 UD. I think he will prevail on the feet and not be on the ground long enough to get caught.

Hardy and Thiago are hardly comparable... Hardy has a gritty style of mixed standup and annoyance. Thiago is more BJJ oriented, but seems to be somewhat threatening on his feet. I'm still not sold on Thiago's standup yet. I wouldn't count Kampmann out of this fight. If Thiago thinks for one second that he is gonna outstrike Kampmann, he is mental.

Bizbing has lost a lot of his appeal so their hoping Hardy can carry some of the load to expand in that area. You can look at this two ways Paulo is getting experience so he's ready for a title fight were Hardy isn't ready for GSP and is going to look real bad against GSP. IMHO |

IMHO | 2 things are likely to happen when Dan faces Georges. He is going to find out how much harder Georges works than any other fighter. He is also going to find out how much his mind games that he has played with his previous opponents actually helped his odds of winning. He hasn't said anything bad natured about St. Pierre or tried to play any mind games with him, not saying that Georges would even aknowledge it. But you'd be stupid to deny that Dan Hardy has won most of his fights in the UFC via Round Zero mindfuck.
Bisping has been somewhat of a sinking ship...no more of a sinking dinghy as of late. I think after being knocked stupid by Dan Henderson, he's re-evaluated his desire to be punched in the head. I don't believe for a second that the UFC has given up on him, but I expect you'll see the bulk of Bisping's upcoming fights are going to take place in England/European market.

or they're sacrificing Hardy to give Paulo Thiago some more time to spruce up his game in preparation for a GSP meeting. He has potential to get there. He needs to improve his stand up and his footwork a bit. He has the knockout power, he just needs to put some rythm there.
We're at a weird crossroads in the UFC right now. Every champion looks unbeatable. but remember this is mma, all you need is one good punch/kick or your opponent to slip and fall and the fight ( and potentially the belt) is all yours.

Kampmann has the MUCH BETTER stand up and if you think otherwise that is insane. Plus Kampmann is good enough on the ground to not get caught. I say Kampmann takes this.

i honestly think their stand up is more equal.. based on the fact of watching the last couple of Kampmann fights he was getting tagged by Condit in their fight and he is no world class striker and in his last fight he was lookin for that take down. I think Kampmann is very powerful and has good strikes but kind of slow throwing them in. I think Thiago is ready for the big time.. handed out ass whoopings to contenders and teammates swick and kos i think a fight or two away.. maybe winner of his fight takes on winner of Daley/Kos.. get a new number 1 contender ready.
