| Mike Swick Changes Tune on Dan Hardy's Challenge to Georges St Pierre at UFC 111 Mike Swick Changes Tune on Dan Hardy's Challenge to Georges St Pierre at UFC 111 - Bloody Elbow Quote:
Ariel Helwani gets the scoop: Quote:
"Dan Hardy definitely deserves his title shot in Newark. I said in a few interviews he didn't but - I want to clear the air - when I said that I was still upset I'd got beat by him at UFC 105. I made that mistake of talking when I was feeling emotional, when I was feeling down and was disappointed in my performance. But it wasn't my true opinion; at least not one I'd actually thought about," he said.
"I'm a little embarrassed I said that, and want to say publicly Hardy deserves his shot and has a good chance of winning. He's a top fighter. I said on my Twitter I hope Dan does well and good luck to him, that he deserves shot. But obviously no-one picked up on that while the other stuff I said before was everywhere.
"Has Hardy had a fast route to the title? Yes, but he's taken chances and accepted tough fights when offered to him. It's true: if I had won that fight no-one would be saying I didn't earn it. And do I wish I'd have gotten a faster route to a number one contender fight? Of course. You wouldn't be hearing me complain, or any other welterweight complain, about getting a quicker route to a number one contender fight. He stepped up to fight me and won.
| This is, of course, a dramatic change in tune from Mike Swick, who not long ago was smack talking Dan Hardy at every opportunity.
I will give Swick this, I'd certainly rather see Dan Hardy vs Georges St Pierre than Mike Swick vs Georges St Pierre.
I hope Dana White appreciates this bit of team spirit from Swick as they enter the final push to sell UFC 111.
The return of popular welterweight champion Georges St Pierre is very important to the UFC for business reasons. They don't need their own independent contractors shit-talking their matchmaking.

Swick was pissed he got beat ok, but start talking right after a loss then say you did not mean it.
Davis and Mir did the samething, "I am going to talk shit until it gives me neg press results" the I will say I am sorry.
To get this sport up to full mainstream I think we will need more people like Randy and GSP and Jens CLASSY EDUCATED, PROs who think before they speak

Respect to Swick for admitting he was wrong to say it....i always thought he was a decent bloke from TUF series 1 and a good fighter but more a gatekeeper than title contender.
People seem to be warming to Hardy a bit recently, not hugely but little by little.

I actually think this is more of the Zuffa brass getting on his ass for bashing their promoted card. You dont want an employee criticizing your work.

I personally feel like this is more of a case of Swick realizing that it makes him look like a lesser challenge by saying the guy who beat him fairly(if slighly dully) isn't worth it, which is kinda like saying your personal stock isn't too worthwhile in a way. If I got beaten by somebody, I'd put them over like a million bucks so people didn't think it was that I was a bad fighter, rather my foe is just REEEEEALLY good. It's all about perspective here and by altering it, Swick's just trying to up his own value, coming off two pisspoor performances. This feels like spin and nothing more.
HOWEVA, I also feel as if there MAYBE some people(Kos, Fitch, other WWs) being be told to STFU by Dana and co because in all honesty, Hardy has zero claim to the number one contendership with his record and skillset and the more discourse there is about his unworthiness and utter hopelessness, the less interest there is to pay money to watch him challenge GSP on PPV, which serves nobody well.

I never had anything against Hardy. He deservs his shot and he's a pretty good fighter. I just think he's going to lose in a spectacular fashion. All this shows me is the Welterweight Division is running a little dry.
