Is there a better story teller than Floyd Mayweather? During his recent media tour, he visited the offices of USA Today and was asked about mixed martial arts cutting into the boxing fanbase. The legendary pugilist responded by telling a story that suggested he pointed UFC president Dana White in the right direction.
"My uncle Jeff Mayweather is the one who started Dana White off," said Floyd Mayweather. "I first met Dana White in 1996. He was a boxing aerobics trainer but he didn't know nothing about boxing. My uncle Jeff taught him about contact sports."
Mayweather said he introduced White to a woman with deep pockets and the rest is history. All this time we thought White put this together because he went to high school in Las Vegas with Lorenzo Fertitta. That sets the record straight.
I don't trust anything that comes out of the mouths of the Mayweathers or Dana White. Dana is a liar himself. The same man who said that WE, the MMA Community, demanded Ortiz vs Liddell 3 which was a big bold lie.
I bet you if that fight still happens it'll make good numbers in ppv buys. a lot of us may not like the idea of this fight, but to a lot of the frat guys who get together with their bros and slam jaegerbombs and watch "the fight" another fight with chuck and tito is very compelling.
Although it's obvious these two guys are no longer competetive in the UFC, I don't see why we can't watch them anymore. I never understood that about a lot of mma fans. Once these fighters pass the point where they're no longer a threat, (like Franklin Liddell Ortiz Couture Coleman, and a few others I won't say due to fear of being attacked.) why cant we watch them fight each other or up and comers? I know it happens to a degree anyways, but once they become a benchmark, people get angered at the idea of them fighting.
I liked when they were the best in the world, and i still like them. they don't make boring fights. I don't think I've ever seen a boring Chuck Liddell, Franklin or Ortiz fight. So i'll keep watching them, even if it's not competetive for title contention, because I like this sport, and I like to see them fight. hell, we liked the first two fights between ortiz and liddell that we'll watch re runs of it on Unleashed, so why not see a new chapter, especially since this time they both have more to prove to each other then they ever have.
Money sounds about right. I don't know that his uncle "introduced" Dana to mma, I'm sure Dana had heard of it, but, Money does seem to have Dana's history down... Especially the boxing aerobics instructor part! LOL
I tend to believe Money believes what he's saying on this, but just that it isn't 100% correct. I'm sure his uncle is just like all mayweathers, they like to brag and embellish... all facts aside.

I personally dont buy into it. But does it matter either way? Bottom line Zuffa, love them or hate them, put MMA back on the map in the states and thats where we are today. What difference does it make if a Mayweather turned him on to contact sports or Jesus talked to him in a dream? Dana took the ball and ran with it.

What these people will do to keep their name in headlines. Dana still doesn't have to know a lot about it as long as he knows how to promote it. Give him/UFC credit for doing a better job than any other promotion. Maybe Mayweather taught Dana how to talk sh*t
