Default Jake Shields may look to the UFC for competition with a win over Dan Henderson

Jake Shields may look to the UFC for competition with a win over Dan Henderson by Eduardo Cruz on Mar 16, 2010 9:40 AM

Props: Graciemag

Quoteworthy:

"I’m a fighter who takes it one opponent at a time and my next fight is in Strikeforce against (Dan) Henderson. When you talk about guys like Anderson Silva and St.-Pierre, the best in the world, obviously I fight want to fight them. I want to be the best in the world and to be the best you have to beat the best. GSP’s a complete fighter standing and on the ground. But that’s why I want to fight him, that’s the challenge. I want to test my skills and see what happens. Now I’m focused on Dan Henderson for this fight and after that my contract with Strikeforce ends. I’ll talk with Strikeforce and the UFC to find out which one I will work for."

Current Strikeforce middleweight champion and undeafeted since 2004, Jake Shields comes off thirteen victories in a row and now has the hardest match of his career versus Dan Henderson on April 17. Shields has been training jiu-jitsu with friends Nick and Nate Diaz and experienced a six-week camp with Robert Drysdale in Las Vegas recently where also had the opportunity of helping Chuck Liddell as BJJ coach for the 11th season of The Ultimate Fighter. Jake is going to do the last fight of the current contract and after that will talk to both Strikeforce and UFC to decide what organization he will fight for. Is Shields a good name for UFC? Do you think he is able to beat Silva or St-Pierre --or won’t even get past Henderson?

I'd much rather see Nick Diaz back in the UFC over Shields if not only because Jake's style is a tad dull. I fully expect to see him drop back down to 170 if he still can after the Hendo bout.

Even with his dull style I would still like him in the UFC. He creates some new matchups that a few divisions are currently lacking.

I dont like Shields and think he is way overrated. Yes he is a good fighter in a small pond. Dan is going to beat his so IDK if he needs to worry about Anderson Silva. Shields is a great grappler with very bad striking. In the UFC against the best I think he will be a average fighter. I also dont think many UFC fans will like his boring style. Guess only time will tell.

Anderson Silva would rip his heart out while shouting "KALIIIMAAAAA.....KAALIIIIMAAA".

Shields couldn't get GSP to the ground, and would get picked apart on his feet.

Having said that, I wouldn't mind seeing some new matchups either. Shields/Fitch gets me excited for some reason, if only because I think Fitch could finish him.

I dunno Kevo, I'd much rather shave my eyeballs with a rusty razor before watching Shields/Fitch which IMO, is the MMA equivalent to watching paint dry or Gray Maynard fighting....Gray Maynard. Now Shields vs. Semtex II, would be something I'd be interested.

Ditto a showdown with Paolo Thiago or Hazlett.

I'm just trying to get Fitch a fighter he might finish. Theres no way Shields could get it to the ground, and no reason for Fitch to take it to the mat when he's clearly a better striker then Shields. I think Fitch might pick him apart, maybe finish him.....

Or Fitch might lay on him for 15 minutes. I don't know. I'm not Ms. Cleo. I do know that I would like to see Shields in the UFC.

you said it all bro. silva would murder him. and GSP would pick him apart.
but would be great to see:
shields vs kos
shields vs fitch
shields vs hazlett
shields vs maia
shields vs marquart
shields vs toquinho!!!! god i would love to see toquinho throw him around like a rag doll!!!

plus if he comes to the ufc he will finally be fighting some real competition. cuz till now he has only fought nobodies really. and mayhem was really of a hump fest. hopefully Hendo will do the samething he did against bispin.

I think Shirlds would be a great addition to the UFC Welterweight division.
