| James Irvin on his drug addiction - "I was an addict and I needed to get caught." James Irvin talks about his battle with methadone and oxymorphone: "The Anderson Silva fight, I... - Bloody Elbow Quote:
"The Anderson Silva fight, I have 25 stitches across my cheek from when he blasted me," the mixed martial arts fighter told The Canadian Press. "Every day when I look in the mirror, I have a clear reminder of what those drugs did to me and what lies ahead of me if I was ever to start using that garbage ever again."
"It wasn't until a time that I just stopped taking them that I realized I needed them just to keep on functioning," he said. "At that time I had become an addict and I was hooked on them.
"I needed to get caught," he said. "I needed to get in trouble for it and wake me up and get off of those things."
"I'm trying to get [reach out] to fighters, but it's kind of a taboo thing," said Irvin. "I don't think fighters want to talk about it. Fighters definitely don't want to admit that they have a problem with it when it's obvious they do because more and more fighters are getting caught with the stuff and getting caught with it in them."

Damn, Anderson Silva: my anti-drug... Because he'll beat the shit out of my face if I do them.
On a serious note tho, i'm glad Irvin recognized it as a problem and is taking the right steps on becoming well, way to go man.

At least he has the guts to come out and say these things, and try to make a good comeback. Even though I hate Sakara taking this fight I hope the Sandman knocks him out, or at least puts on a good enough show to keep him fighting some top guys. Always liked him. WAR IRVIN!

I still remember the Terry Martian fight like yesterday pissed because he was getting tooled. Blinked in the 2nd and had to watch the replay to see it. Not the best well rounded fighter but I've always liked his fights, and his atitude

....I'm really happy for him!...I myself was addicted to pain pills and it can get ugly quick if your not careful. Thankfully I realized what road I was taking my life into and got my act together before it was to late.
...I hope Ervin can pull this off. I like both guys but Irvin could use the win more. Surprisingly the odds maker's currently have Irvin as the favorite at -135.
