| Jorgensen replaces injured Page, gets Banuelos rematch on WEC 48 PPV main card Jorgensen replaces injured Page, gets Banuelos rematch on WEC 48 PPV main card | MMAjunkie.com Quote:
An injury has forced Damacio Page (15-4 MMA, 3-1 WEC) out of a scheduled matchup with Antonio Banuelos (17-5 MMA, 8-4 WEC) at next month's WEC 48 event, and fellow bantamweight Scott Jorgensen (9-3 MMA, 5-2 WEC) has stepped in as a replacement.
WEC officials today announced the change, which sets up a rematch between Banuelos and Jorgensen.
WEC 48 takes place April 24 and marks the WEC's pay-per-view debut. The Banuelos vs. Jorgensen fights kicks off the night's PPV-televised main card.
Page and Jorgensen first fought at WEC 41, where Banuelos picked up a close split-decision win. It's Jorgensen's only loss in his past six WEC fights, and avenging the defeat could conceivably earn the Idaho-based fighter a title shot.
Since that defeat, Jorgensen has picked up three consecutive wins, which included a unanimous-decision victory over Takeya Mizugaki (that earned him the WEC 45 "Fight of the Night" award) and a recent submission win over Chad George earlier this month at WEC 47.
Banuelos announced his booking on the April card during an appearance on MMAjunkie.com Radio (MMAjunkie.com Radio | MMAjunkie.com), and WEC officials confirmed his participation a few weeks later. The bantamweight spitfire has won back-to-back fights with decision wins over Kenji Osawa and Jorgensen in his most recent performances at WEC 44 and WEC 41, respectively.
A mainstay of the lighter-weighted promotion since his debut at WEC 5, Banuelos has won four of his past five fights.
