I think the real issue with Derelict Dan Miragliotta is the inhumanely late Mir stoppage. The stand ups and break ups during real action are incredibly stupid and weak of him (listening to the crowd is not the ref's job). The second Mir's legs buckled against the cage, DD should have been right in there assessing things. I'm not a ref, but usually when a guy starts taking several power punches from a 265 lb'er in succession, it's time to take a peak at him.
I would wage 90% of the viewing audience on PPV were saying/shouting he's out long before he was laying in the prone position on the ground on the ground. Wouldn't you as a fighter want the ref to be stopping that fight the second you are out?
On a side note: Does anyone know if Frank Mir has any avenues to explore with respect to complaining to the athletic commission about the reffing? If I took that many unnecessary shots, I'd be making sure that ref at least officially was acknowledged for being incompetent.

Sword: I can certainly appreciate what you're saying, and your points are not far off from what I wanted to say initially. Having said that, enough is enough with Dan. He's a danger to the fighters.

Mir was clearly out and took about 4 more power shots, Carwin looked at Dan like really keep hitting him.

I'll agree the stoppage was late, but didn't it make you feel warm and fuzzy inside because it was Frank. lol

To be fair with the Mir stoppage, if he stopped it right when Frank's knees buckled then he probably would have ended up stopping it while Frank made his last desperation attempt at taking Carwin's arm, and people would have had a fit if he stopped it during a submission attempt to say the guy was done.
As soon as Frank was on his belly though the fight was over and there was definitely 5 good shots landed after that.
I'm actually surprised he didn't get on Carwin for striking the back of the head though. Carwin was just wailing away and Mir turned his head so if Brock was stopped and penalized for that in their first fight, Carwin could have been as well.
Anyway, that ref lost my respect when he broke up the clinch even though Carwin was kneeing Frank's legs into Jell-O (tm), especially after they let Randy slow dance with Vera against the cage for a good 10 out of those 15 min.

Why is it ok to standup 2 ground specialists as soon as the crowd starts booing, but they'll never restart them in the missionary position no matter how much 2 guys dance around each other?

Let's not forget the SHIT job he did with the Hardy VS Gono fight. Where he single handedly kept Gono from winning that fight. I mean, he shoved to the ground at one point!!

Every ref speaks with the fighters before they fight, and I am sure Frank told Dan to not stop the fight at any point even if he is unconscious laying on the mat.....I am sure Frank isn't pissed.
I think it would have been hard for Dan to stop the fight much earlier (he might have been able to save Frank from getting hit maybe 2 more times) but that's it.
I thought Dan did a lot better than some of his reffing in the past.
I was only upset with maybe one standup call he made in the Fitch fight where Fitch was still being active and transitioning from guard to half guard.
I don't agree with Joe everytime he ragged on Dan. Once....I think it was in the Riddle fight, both fighters were standing clinched on the fence, not throwing punches, just grappling, with neither guy working enough. I feel if neither guy is transitioning, or attempting to finish the fight, separate them....twice I saw Dan separate fighters and Joe rag on Dan, and I thought he was justified.
