| What are the chances that Overeem actually fights on Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery ?
I just finished NOT doing my Abnormal psych term paper by watching the first round bouts from the K1 Grand Prix and Overeem, while victorious with a brutal knee, didn't come away completely clean and took one or two nice little shots that while won't do any harm in the long term, got me to thinking.... What are the chances that after possibly going up against Hari, Le Banner etc, that he pulls out of his showdown with Rogers on May 15th???
Because seriously, that's a pretty swift turn around and recoup period for Overeem, who undoubtedly will receive some level of damage and injury and however slightly(concussion, fracture etc), could force him from not being medically cleared to fight in St. Louis right? And if he's banged up from these K1 bouts, it'd be a pretty perfect excuse to pull out of the Rogers bout without saying "ummmm, I can't pass a piss test" and IMO, I feel like we'll be hearing Alistair's way out prior to the fight in May.
I mean, BEST CASE scenario, Overeem wins the Grand Prix and probably goes through at least one war and I don't think the chances that he wins the whole thing are too terribly bright considering how sick Hari is. I just think the chances he gets hurt are pretty good here and between the medical board and Overeem's own self awareness of what he can and can't pass, I think he's gonna pull out of the May fight.
Maybe I should give him the benefit of the doubt, but this little theory of mind just seems so concise with how Overeem could get around testing for PEDs. IMO, potential is soooo there that he can legitimately excuse himself from this bout due to injury and circumvent having to fight in the States once again without ever having failed a 'roids test.
I'm curious as to A) if Strikeforce has thought of this possibility B) if there's a backup plan in place IF this happens and C) how the Strikeforce card would/could be effected.
I'm just trying to gauge everybodies thoughts on this matter, because while K1 obviously doesn't inflict the visible, instant "He'll be gone 6 to 8 months" damage that MMA has through the smaller gloves, subs, elbows etc, a swift kick to the head or a really big combo are serious hazards and I think there's a major league possibility that Rogers/Overeem doesn't happen.
What are your thoughts???

| Uh what? You know that there is no grand prix even between now and the next Strikeforce show? I mean there is one qualifying tournament in Bucharest but I'm not sure what you mean about Overeem fighting Schlit and Hari before the May SF show.

I'm sorry, for some reason, when I read the next K1 was on Sunday, April 10, 2010, I thought that was the next round, my mistake.

But still, I don't think he'll fight in May, even if he doesn't pull out due to injury.

I want to believe that he will fight on May, but if he makes another excuse again, then he should be stripped. Because its an abuse, he is doing whatever the fuck he wants.
BTW I just watched his fight in K-1 and maybe its my imagination but IMO he looks a little little bit less huge than before.

I am sure Coker gave him an ultimatum. And if he does not fight they will probably take his belt. And I am sure Coker has a backup fighter just in case (to replace Rogers or Uberreem)
He likes to stay busy (even against sub-par opponents in MMA)
Check it:
K-1 against Mr K-1 Peter Aerts 09/26/2009
MMA fight against Tony Sylvester 10/17/2009
MMA fight against James Thompson 10/25/2009
K-1 against Ewerton Teixeira 12/05/2009
K-1 against Badr Hari 12/05/2009
MMA fight against Kazuyuki Fujita 12/31/2009
Six fights from September 26th to December 31st. All after his bar fighting injury.
Probably wishful thinking, but I hope that he actually fights and it will take a loss to MMA or a loss to a sub-par opponent in K-1 that will help him refocus on where he wants to fight and what he wants to do with his career.
