Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir says he would like to fight current UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva at a catch weight if Anderson’s planned super fight with Georges St. Pierre is now off.

Silva has previously talked of a move to heavyweight but more recently talked about dropping for a catch weight fight with welterweight division boss St. Pierre. However, UFC president Dana White said yesterday he has gone off that idea somewhat after Anderson put on another bizarre and disappointing show in the headline bout of UFC 112.

“I would love to fight Anderson Silva!” Mir told Fighters Only in a text message last night. “I would even make it a 235 catch weight to make it more appealing to his manager and the commission.”

Silva has fought at light-heavyweight twice in the UFC and finished both his fights there with TKO stoppages. 235lbs would be the highest weight he had ever fought at although he walks around at a similar weight when bulking up for his light-heavyweight excursions.

Whether the UFC would be interested in matching Mir and Silva is unclear but Anderson would certainly have his work cut out for him if they did. Mir is a jiu jitsu player like Maia but his significant size advantage alone would make him a much more threatening prospect.

Im sure Mir would like to get a shot at Anderson to boost himself back up. I would definitely love to watch that fight.

I havent posted anything since 112. I was out watching it and I am still just completely devastated by BJ's loss and Anderson Silva not finishing the fight after showing off so fucking much. I had no will to even post how disappointed Ive been.

Anyway, thoughts on this?

Sounds very appealing, IMO Mir would eat silva... not comming from a mir fan either

This is pretty much Mir's quick way to find his way back to relevance for the title. Silva has suggested going up to HW. This would be Dana White's best choice to "punish" Silva. Why would Dana White want to cement Anderson in history after his humiliation of Maia? Silva will get what he wants. It would be absolutely hilarious to see what Silva does after the trash talk of Frank Mir. If trash talk caused physical damage to his opponents, Frank Mir would be HW champion at the moment.

Anderson's PPV numbers will only go up after this. People will tune in to hopes he gets destroyed. It works for Mayweather. It works for Lesnar. It will work for Anderson Silva. Anderson is a bigger troll then Lesnar now. In fact he is an inverted troll doll. He is bald, skinny, tall and black.

Oh and I completely disagree with the poster who took Mir over silva. Silva would put a Forrest like beating on Mir.

Mir thinks he's got good striking now so it would be a fun fight to watch. I don't see Frank flopping on his butt wanting guard

I like Mir but really Anderson Destroys Mir 99 out of 100 times.

Plus, knowing that Nog lost to Mir, Anderson would ko Mir, I have no doubts about it.

Mir will get schooled unless he takes Anderson down, but for some reason i don't think he will be able to. So with that in mind i will take Anderson by TKO in rd 2.

Mir wins this fight all day. And don't feel too bad DayneFS, I watched Mir, BJ, and Vera all lose in less then a month, those are my favorite 3 fighters.
