There may have been 'works' in the UFC.
I've had people (nutjobs) say Silva / Griffin was a work (not sure if I buy it); given Griffin went toe to toe with Jackson for 25 minutes, took bigger shots and still hung in there.
Some of the judging is awfully suspect... But I think it's suspected of being perpetrated by complete idiots. |
Griffin got up right away. It was an indication to me that he took those shots as a way out of the fight. A way of preventing thorough embarassment.
After the fights at the bar, I was talking to my friend about my own conspiracy. Perhaps this was indeed a way of making him the equivalent of a Brock Lesnar heel. People are saying how they won't tune in to the next Anderson fight, but who are they kidding? People said Lesnar was a joke and they wouldn't watch it. Lesnar is now the UFC's biggest draw, which a year and a half ago you'd think was absolutely insane.
I suggested to my friend Anderson might have been trying to make the MMA world hate him and this would have been the exact way of doing it. Why else? To make more money. Silva is trapped in a division with nothing to offer him. The next division up, he says, is owned by his dear friend, Lyoto Machida. So why not anger your boss to the point where he will do anything to make you lose, in retaliation to your behaviour. I wouldn't doubt if Soares, instead of White, concocted this scheme. He's already the false mouthpiece of Silva, who wants nothing to do with the press. But for this to have been true, in my mind, Soares would have said "translated" some disagreeable things, rather than damage control.
Had Dana been the creator of this masterpiece, then I would expect the Frank Mir fight to come to fruition. But if White is truly angry, he'll give him Sonnen. Anderson would no doubt take this match with displeasure. He would actually have to train for a title defense. Sonnen's cardio would have to be negated with his own. Giving him Frank Mir would only catapult him further to legendary status and give him exactly what he wants. A challenge. Something to be remembered by. Legacy. Yet, people will no doubt point out that Frank was on decline and a whole lot of bollocks.
When you have a following of people, it doesn't matter if they love or hate you. They are still behind you watching your every move with fascination. I have no doubt in my mind that after 112, Anderson's numbers will increase by a large margin. It's the same reason why people slow down when they see a car wreck -- morbid curiousity. Every one of you who is just blindly saying hateful comments will be one of the people I am talking about.
