UFC: British star Paul Daley dismisses 'boring' Jake Shields
UFC star Paul Daley has blasted incoming fight star Jake Shields as boring - and admits he's not interested in avenging his loss to the Strikeforce champ.
Shields is expected to sign for the Ultimate Fighting Championship within the next few weeks after being caught on camera at the weekend's WEC card with UFC president Dana White.
But Daley - who fights Josh Koscheck next weekend for a shot at current UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre - says he's not impressed by Shields' switch from Strikeforce.
"I am not in a rush to rematch him," he said.
"I am so much better than I was when I lost that fight. I don’t like talking about it - I didn’t perform and I didn’t do myself justice.
"He’s a boring fighter. Fair play, he’s had a lot of wins and he’s a top fighter who adds to the division, but I enjoy being called the most exciting new fighter in the UFC and don’t want boring fights.
"Shields is always in boring fights due to his style and I don’t want to be in boring bouts."
Victory over Koscheck - seen by many commentators as one of the few who can compete with St-Pierre at wrestling - would put Daley in the footsteps of pal Dan Hardy and set up a title bout with GSP.
But the Nottingham fighter - whose trip to Montreal to prepare for next Saturday's bout was delayed by the ash cloud - says facing the Canadian superstar is not at the forefront of his mind.
"If I could chose, I am happy to wait for a title shot," said Daley.
"I am happy to go 6-0 in the UFC before thinking of a title shot. But I also understand that champ Georges St-Pierre is running out of opponents and so guys are getting title fights a little sooner because GSP has beaten a lot of the top guys, including Koscheck.

I am going to reserve what I have to say about a rematch till after his next matchup with Kos. If his TDD has improved AT ALL we will see it. Then and only then can anyone make any assumptions about whether this guy can avenge his loss. His striking has certainly improved from the time he fought Shields, but only with better footwork. Not sure what he has in store for Kos.

He sounds like Hardy did after the loss to GSP- just lose gracefully please. He did get tapped pretty hard by Jake and I do agree Jake is boring but come on being exciting is not the goal.

Shields JJ is brilliant, I just wish he had something to go along with it, because thats all he has!
Being great at just one element of MMA won't keep you hanging with the top guys that are very good at a few elements of MMA. Mark my words!

Seems like he's taking the Dan Hardy approach. Talk a ton of shit and capitalize on any win you get.

That is true- Sheilds has won a lot of fights and been on TV quite a bit but gets no respect because he is so borning and one dimensional. When they put him against Lawler they expeted him to lose same w/ Hendo. Exciting fighters can get losses and still not be dropped cause win or lose they entertain. As far as the one element thing both Daley and Sheilds suffer from that but Daley is generally more exciting.
