| Strikeforce: Los Angeles" official with Bobby Lashley, Robbie Lawler, K.J. Noons
Source "Strikeforce: Los Angeles" official with Bobby Lashley, Robbie Lawler, K.J. Noons | MMAjunkie.com Quote:
Two weeks after Strikeforce officials first announced their intentions to hold a rare mid-week fight card in Los Angeles, the promotion has now released the first three fighters that will appear at the event.
Bobby Lashley, Robbie Lawler and K.J. Noons will all fight on the Showtime-broadcast portion of "Strikeforce: Los Angeles," which takes place on Wednesday, June 16, at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
Opponents for all three fighters will be named at a later date.
Pre-sale tickets for the event go on sale Thursday, April 29, while the public on sale date is set for Saturday, May 1.
The 7,100-seat Nokia Theatre is a popular destination for national music acts and awards shows.
The date was selected in order to coincide with the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), a popular trade show for the computer and video-game industries. The conference provides a platform for promoting Electronic Arts' MMA title, EA Sports MMA. Strikeforce will make a major appearance in the video game as the "premier league" in which fighters compete.
The game is expected to hit shelves in late 2010 as a competitor to the bestselling "UFC Undisputed" franchise that THQ and the UFC launched in 2009.
Lashley (5-0 MMA, 1-0 SF) fights for the second time under the Strikeforce banner. The former collegiate wrestling champion and WWE star made his debut in January and earned a first-round victory over an out-of-shape Wes Sims. The muscular Lashley has earned four of his five career wins by first-round stoppage.
Lawler (19-5 MMA, 1-1 SF) returns to the Strikeforce cage after a thrilling first-round knockout win over Melvin Manheof at January's "Strikeforce: Miami." Lawler absorbed a series of punishing low kicks in the fight and appeared destined to fall victim to the Dutch striker's powerful attacks, but a well-timed counter-attack left Manhoef sprawled on the canvas.
Noons (8-2 MMA, 0-0 SF), the first and only EliteXC lightweight champion, fights for the first time for Strikeforce. Noons took a 21-month break from MMA competition and focused on a professional boxing career, though he returned in March and earned a unanimous decision over Brazilian Andre Amade in a DREAM.13 contest.

I thought Lashley was going to be on the Nashville card, what ever happened to that? I don't really like the idea of announcing fighters without opponents, but I guess its the kind of stuff people will come to expect from Strikeforce. It's nice to see KJ Noons fighting again, I think he is a guy who has a lot of potential right now.

I am more ready to see lawler though, I hope he can come back after that last loss. Also, I want to see if Bobby is still improving or if he is still the same fighter.
Like you, I think it is dumb to announcing a fighter without who they are fighting. But lets face it, it is SF. SF will countuine to do this as well as not promoting the event at all.

This has the makings of a very strange event. On a Wednesday, in the Nokia theatre. The Nokia Theatre has theatre seating and a stage and I don't believe the configuration can change. So you're going to have the cage on a stage with the whole audience on one side of the cage like they're watching a play or concert. I've seen some small, local shows attempt MMA events in theatres like this, but I didn't think a "major" organization would do it. Very strange to me.

You actually beat me to it LOL. I was going to ask about the configuration, but I guess we will have to wait and see. Unless others have seen or been to a similar event.

KJ is back! that means that Nick Diaz will be in the cage again starting a brawl LOL.
This is why SF is bullshit, they pick some bigger names they got, put them on a card and pick opponents tail-made for them AND at a later date. So much for Coker's bullshit about "my fighters have more than enough notic to get ready" like 2-3 weeks...riiiight!

I have no comment; just felt like spamming this thread.
lol, it'll be good to see both Lawler and Noons back in action. I'm starting not to care for Lashley, these days. Anyway, thanks for the update, TBear. Keep up the good work, homie.

Wow Lawler only has 2 fights in Strikeforce? I thought it was more than that, but maybe it was under EliteXC at the time.
Yeah I do like KJ Noons, but there always seems to be drama surrounding his fights. Wasn't he also accused of hand-picking his opponents or something like that?
I like Lashley I will admit. It's obvious he has the hunger to be in the game, and it generally an entertaining fighter.

hopefully they'll get some good match ups though. lash will prob get a can, but it is always exciting watching lawler, and it will be good for sf having noons back
