Default Jim Miller vs. Gleison Tibau targeted for fall UFC event

Jim Miller vs. Gleison Tibau targeted for fall UFC event (Updated)
by John Morgan and Dann Stupp on May 03, 2010 at 4:20 pm ET
UFC lightweight Jim Miller (17-2 MMA, 6-1 UFC) goes for his fifth straight victory, and Gleison Tibau (21-6 MMA, 6-3 UFC) goes for his fifth win in six fights when the pair meets this fall.

A source close to the event told MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com) at least one fighter has agreed to the bout, though the individual fighters' camps did not immediately return messages requesting comment.

Although initially reported as taking place at UFC on Versus 2 on Aug. 1, MMAjunkie.com has since learned the fight could take place later in the year, possibly in September as part of a UFC Fight Night or pay-per-view event.

While many look at champ Frankie Edgar and contenders B.J. Penn, Kenny Florian and Gray Maynard as the elite of the UFC's 155-pound class, Miller is nipping at their heels. The former IFL lightweight champion has won 12 of his past 13 fights, and during his current streak, he's topped Mac Danzig, Steve Lopez, Duane "Bang" Ludwig and Mark Bocek.

Miller's only career losses have come to Edgar (at a 2006 Reality Fighting show) and Maynard (at UFC 96). Both losses came via decision.

Like Miller, Tibau is also closing in on a potential title shot. After back-to-back losses to Tyson Griffin and Joe Stevenson in 2008, the American Top Team fighter has won four of five fights, which includes recent back-to-back victories over Josh Neer (decision) and Caol Uno (TKO). The lone loss came to Melvin Guillard in a close split-decision loss that MMAjunkie.com scored in Tibau's favor.

Miller (wrestling) and Tibau (Brazilian jiu-jitsu) are both well-rounded fighters with strong ground games. Of their combined 38 career wins, half (19) have come via submission.

Didn't see this posted anywhere and was a fight that really peaked my interest. This to me is a great matchup for two fighters on the brink of cracking into title contention and are pretty entertaining. I personally feel like Tibau got boned in the Melvin fight, so it's nice to see him getting a bigger fight after stringing a few together. Should be a really entertaining battle.

should be a nice match. I see Gleison throwing him around like rag doll and out working Jim Miller everywhere.

Definatly Miller in this, but should be a great fight. Think winner should get Tyson Griffin, but hell this is almost 6 months in the future. Who knows what the hell could happen in the meantime?

Awesome matchup! I really like both guys and want them to do well, but I am ready for a Tibau coming out party. I think he has tons of talent and good make a good little run. I see Miller always being right outside the top of the division, but will put on great fights.
