That is far too many "if's", Randy is a wrestler, him outstriking Chuck was a 1/100 chance, miracle in the octagon, whatever you want to call it. He is an olympic wrestler with average standup at best. He would in no way be able to outstrike Wanderlei. He would immediately be going for the takedown.
Randy was great, his record was not, meaning he lost to those top ranked guys a lot, wanderlei on the other hand has destroyed those top ranked guys 98% of the time. it's hard to bet against Wanderlei in any fight including a fight with Couture.
I have seen a ton of people jump ship after Wanderlei lost to Cro Cop and people think it is like the Rich Franklin scenerio but it is nothing alike. Franklin was exposed for being an overhyped fighter, his record was great but his wins were coming over average competition wiht his best victory coming over Tanner and DL, while Wand has that same phenomenal record but has defeated top ranked fighter after top ranked fighter. Rampage x2, Arona, Saku x3, Kondo, Fujita who outweighed him by 45+lbs, draw with Cro Cop in the first fight, a war with Hunt who outweighed him by 80lbs and that fight should've been a draw at best, Hunt was given the win becasue it was his MMA debut and he fought so impressively IMO, Mezger and Nakamura.
UFC rules Couture would have a great chance via pin his head to the cage gnp and would not have to worry about paying for a missed double leg takedown adn eating knees. Pride rules, clearly Wanderlei would have the distinct advantage.
I would've liked to have seen the fight take place back when there was talk of it and still would not mind seeing it now.
