Exclusive: UFC comes back to Brazil on 2011
On October 16 of 1998, Vitor Belfort, Pedro Rizzo, Wanderlei Silva and Frank Shamrock, among other tough guys, got into action on the first edition of UFC in Brazil. The precarious stage and the bad organized show were the image of the event back then, without the glamour of the billionaire event that makes editions all around the world currently.
But, the expectations are of a completely different show next year, when UFC will make its second edition in Brazil. On the cover article of TATAME Magazine #173, which is already on the newsstands, we investigated and found out: UFC will come back to the country that created the sport on 2011! With new partnerships and one reality show (The Ultimate Fighter) only with Brazilian fighters, the expectations are high. On July’s edition of TATAME you can find out all details of the historical news and an exclusive interview with Dana White, UFC’s president. |

Assuming this is true, this is awesome news. In my mind there are three "old-school" hotbeds of MMA: USA, Japan, Brazil. These days Canada and the UK are also up there in intensity, with other countries coming along; but these three countries combined have easily produced 90%+ of the sport's top fighters. I think it's awesome to see UFC return finally to one of them.
Imagine the PPV card:
Antonio Silva (yes he's a UFC heavyweight by 2011) vs. Brock Lesnar for UFC heavyweight title
Shogun vs. Rashad Evans for UFC light heavyweight title
Junior Dos Santos vs. Shane Carwin
Wanderlei Silva vs. Rich Franklin (rematch)
Anderson Silva vs. Rampage Jackson at LHW
