| Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez Confirmed for UFC 121 in Anaheim Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez Confirmed for October in Anaheim - Bloody Elbow Quote:
Recent speculation suggested that Brock Lesnar's next UFC heavyweight title defense against top contender Cain Velasquez would happen in Indianapolis in September, but those rumors fell through when UFC president Dana White denied that report. We now have confirmation from Ariel Helwani at MMA Fighting that the fight instead has been signed for UFC 121 in October in Anaheim, California:
Brock Lesnar will make his next title defense against Cain Velasquez at UFC 121.
UFC president Dana White confirmed with MMA Fighting Friday night that the heavyweight title fight will take place at the yet-to-be officially announced event, scheduled for Oct. 23 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
Although not yet official, the PPV event is expected to take place on October 23rd at the Honda Center, last visited by the UFC for UFC 76: Knockout, back in September of 2007. The event takes place one week after UFC 120 in London, England, which airs on Spike TV in the US. The 121 event was initially rumored to be heading for Germany, but those plans have apparently fallen through.
The rumored card for UFC 121 now includes:
Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez
Anderson Silva/Chael Sonnen vs. Vitor Belfort
Quinton "Rampage" Jackson vs. Lyoto Machida
Sam Stout vs. Paul Taylor | Holy dick shit this is shaping up to be a fucking sick card.

Dana should make this one free to make up for the last Silva fight (as he said he would).
Overcompensating would definitely please the fans and draw more people into MMA.

Lesnar via MDK. Cain awesome and all, but he doesn't have the right tools to combat Brock, he's just too small and can't combat Lesnar's shot/power.
Basically, an establishment of Lesnar's legacy, nothing more. Now a Cigano showdown on the other hand......is a different story altogether.

Overcompensating would definitely please the fans and draw more people into MMA. | I don't want to watch a card this good crammed full of commercials, and less fights. Quote:

I'm sorry, but Cain is just so relentless. I don't think Lesnar can handle Cain's speed, punching combinations coming from different angles, highkicks...IMO, its highly possible that Lesnar will eat a high kick that will either knock him out or at least set up the tko...So going into this bout, Lesnar's best gameplan will be to take down Cain and overpower him with grappling technique and getting Cain in a dangerous predicament until he finishes with a tko, ko or sub...Cain is not going to ever give up in that fight even if he is in trouble of getting ko'd or subbed, he is a warrior...It all depends if Lesnar can take down Cain, most think he can and its highly likely that he will...Cain might want to try and keep the fight standing, but who knows, he might just try and outwrestle Brock, Cain is very strong and can pick up guys as heavy as Kongo (although Kongo doesn't have his wrestling strong enough) and Rothwell (who has decent wrestling, but yet was still no match for Cain)..and we know Brock has a strong base, but Cain CAN take him down and that is a fact...
I was roaming Sherdog today because I couldn't get in MMANEWS for some reason and actually found a good and informative post regarding Cain and Brock when it came to their wrestling so...here is some food for thought.. Quote:
Brock Lesnar fans are going to be in for a rude awakening much like they were in round 1 Lesnar vs Carwin.
Cain went to Junior College for a year. Won the Junior College National Championship.
He transfered to ASU. His highest finish in NCAA tourney is 4th on a controversial loss to the now training partner of Brock Lesnar, 2x NCAA Champion Cole Konrad, a 285 pound beast and NCAA legend.
Cain also holds a victory over NCAA Champion and legend Konrad. Konrad won a gold medal at the 2005 Pan-American Championships. He won the NCAA wrestling championships in 2006 and 2007 at 285 pounds and finished third at the 2006 World University Championships at 120 kilograms.
The difference between the top guys in NCAA is often barely anything. Often its judges basing points cuz these beasts almost never completely dominate each other.
Cain is likely the 3rd or 4th best in his era of NCAA. Two of the best ever are from his era tho.
Brock is the 2nd best from his era. Stephen Neal was the best and maybe the HW GOAT from Brocks era.
Never mind MMA, where Cain has an advantage over Lesnar in many departments. A NCAA match between them in their college primes would have been alot closer than alot think. Lesnar wouldn't just toss aside Cain. Nobody does that.
TL/DR.
This should be a good fight. Lesnar better work on his striking. It's real bad. Panic/run mode as soon as he's even grazed with a decent shot is not good at all combined with bad striking will be a recipe for disaster in due time for Lesnar.
Cain has great wrestling. Nobody rag dolls him. Not even 2x NCAA Champion Cole Konrad, a 285 pound beast and NCAA legend did that. Cain lost to Konrad and beat him. Cain will end Lesnar.
| Oh and there is a strong rumour that 120 is going to be free on Spike as "Dana making up for 112"
