| M-1/Fedor Emelianenko Lays Out NEW UFC Contract Demands Team Fedor Emelianenko Lays Out NEW UFC Contract Demands | 5thRound.com – UFC News, Strikeforce and MMA News, UFC 117 Play-by-Play Results Quote:
Fedor Emelianenko is the hottest name on the MMA free agent market. The only problem is, the heavyweight still has one fight remaining on his current Strikeforce deal. Nonetheless, it hasn’t stopped M-1 Global figurehead Vadim Finkelchtein from laying all his Octagon cards on the table.
“I think yes, but not on the same terms they offered us before,” Finkelchtein told ProSport (translated by Fighters Only) of joining forces with the UFC. “We will not let ourselves to get owned. Fedor became very popular [already] outside the Octagon. So, long story short:
1. We would like to receive guaranteed payments. I know that if we agree for percents, they will cheat us.
2. Maybe not a co-promotion (like we offered before), but at least co-branding.
3. They also will have to permit Fedor participating in Sambo competitions, and during our last negotiations UFC were ready for that term.”
Are you reading this, Mr. Dana White???
For years, the primary sticking point between the two parties was M-1 Global’s undying insistence on sharing half the profits for all Fedor produced shows. With their meal ticket’s abrupt exile from the land of The Invincibles, the Russians now appear willing to play ball – as long as it’s on their (modified) terms.
As far as who they would prefer Fedor to face in his next outing, Finkelchtein professed it was a no-brainer.
“We are ready to fight against anyone, but everyone agrees that the most interesting fight right now is the rematch against Fabricio Werdum. We have one fight left on our contract, so if Strikeforce wants to extend it, they should listen to our opinion,” Finkelstein said.
“Fedor will fight again sometime between October and November … the only thing fans want to see is Fedor vs. Werdum II. Fabricio himself said that he would like to rematch Fedor.”
The reason is clear why M-1 Global is pushing for an immediate mulligan. Werdum not only snapped Emelianenko’s 27-fight win streak last month, but quickly dispelled his unparalleled aura of invincibility as well. The best way to recapture that mojo is by violently rectifying the “fluke” defeat – ala what Georges St-Pierre did to Matt Serra in their UFC 83 rematch.
Still no official word on when and where Fedor will finalize his commitment to the San Jose, California based promotion.

Co-branding is the same thing. The UFC only wants "UFC" on their shows. If "co-branding" just means allowing Fedor to wear M1 Global shorts in his fights then I would say that is no big deal, but having a Fedor fight and having Goldberg say "this fight brought to you by M1 Global and the UFC" sure as hell ain't gonna happen.

As much as I would love to see Fedor beat Brock, I just have this sinking feeling that the crazy Russians at M-1 will totally screw this up somehow. And I can honestly see Dana being a big enough douche bag that he won't even negotiate with them. And to me, Fedor needs to get out of M-1 so bad right now. They are already about to collapse. ....get out Fedor....get out!!! (soft cries heard in the wind...)

Fedor is the greatest heavyweight of all-time but he's not a draw in the US so it doesn't make financial sense for the UFC to cave and co-brand. Plus, the guy just lost and even if he beats Werdum in a rematch it's done a number on his mystique.
The only way I can see Fedor in the UFC is if:
1. He beats Werdum
2. Then he beats Overeem to win the Strikeforce belt
3. M-1 drops their co-promoting and co-branding demands because they realize the UFC can offer them more money than anyone else.
Dana may want to stick it to Strikeforce by stealing another one of their champions, but it's not worth it if he has to promote M-1 as well as Fedor.

the Brock/Fedor fight has to happen, Fedor if I am not mistaken is still the reigning Pride Heavyweight Champ, and also the Pride Heavyweight title is the only one left to unify, the other two were unified a couple of years ago when Dan Henderson lost to Anderson and Rampage, so really the only unclosed door on the Pride titles is the one Fedor has.

Really I'm more interested in seeing Fedor and Barnett fight. When Fedor was in Pride I wanted to see him fight the top HW's in UFC at the time, and we saw him beat Silvia and AA. Yea he could fight Couture, thats been talked about forever, but I dont care to see him fight Brock, or Cain, etc. I'd rather see him rematch with Werdum, fight Overeem and then Barnett. Just my opinion.
