I dont know about you guys, but this new organization sounds pretty silly. The whole UFC meets WWF is just ridiculous, and I hope this doesnt get off the ground.

It was announced about a week back that there was a new promotion being started called "New Era". Kimo is to be the centerpiece.
The organization intends to run like a pro - wrestling organization with scripted storylines, gimmicks, etc. However the fights are allegedly going to be shoots.
There is a thread somewhere with all of the details.

Read the headline on this site "Kimo Therapy" it talks about Kimos new fight organization. The whole wwf meets ufc is the theme with scripted story lines, but real fighting. Perhaps I should have provided a link.

SANTA ANA, California (December 11, 2006) - New Era Fighting (NEF), the fledgling mix martial arts organization, featuring combat fighting legend Kimo Leopoldo, has scheduled fighter and female model tryouts for this weekend (Dec. 16-17) at the South Coast Martial Arts Facility in Cosa Mesa, California.

NEF plans to make its official debut next spring in Las Vegas. Kimo will evaluate fighters (males 205 pounds or more, women 150 pounds or less) in the ring, while NEF president Ron Kort conducts interviews.

The 6-2, 240-pound Kimo is arguably the baddest street fighter of all-time, having fought the best in the UFC, PRIDE, Rumble on the Rock, K-1, Cage Rage and Extreme Wars.

"New Era Fighting will be by the fighters, for the fighters," Kimo explained. "Some fighters with short notice may not want to jump right in at our tryouts because they aren't in fighting shape. I'll be evaluating the fighters and all we want is a 1-2 minute tryout, like sparring, not a full fight. Ron will interview everybody, fighters and models, to evaluate them in terms of their personalities for roles in our shows."

Kort describes the NEF as UFC meets the WWE. Fighting will be real but storylines outside of the ring or cage will be scripted towards driving interest in the next event, like a soap opera. The violence in the ring, however, will be brutally real, not scripted in anyway.

It's a horrible ploy to make money. They are trying to straddle that line between the soap opera that is pro wrestling and the legitimacy of actual combat. I hope this thing bombs like the flaming turd it is.
