Default Yves Lavigne Remains Unbiased: Josh Koscheck Statements Were False

Quote:
According to the Franchise Montreal, Yves Lavigne feels that he may have justifiable cause to take legal action against Le Journal de Montreal for false statements released during a recent “alleged” interview.

And who could blame him—particularly if the statements were indeed false?

What was said?

Well, if you don’t already know, then you’ll just have to visit MMA Crypt to find out (please note the disclaimer at the top in bold, red lettering) as the original article has now been pulled off the shelf.

So far, the only statements released by Yves Lavigne through all of this, have been the following (by way of Ringside Report Host, David Simon’s Twitter account):

“I NEVER gave an interview to that journalist. I NEVER gave an interview regarding GSP vs Koscheck. My lawyer is taking care of this matter."

As a response to Mr. Lavigne’s apparent interview, Josh Koscheck was quick to state the following on his Twitter account:

“UFC referee, Yves Lavigne is clearly not suited to be a referee after his rant of personal attacks and opinions on me as a fighter. It’s supposed to be his job to look at a fight unbiased, but how can anyone trust this guy to fairly referee any fight ever again after his comments? It's scary to think this guy has been calling fights in the octagon for this long. It's very fair to say Mr. Lavigne will never ref one of my fights again. I would never put all my hard work as a fighter or my livelihood in the hands of this ref.

“The (UFC) and the commission would be irresponsible to let him continue his job- any call this guy makes would have to be questioned. You call MMA a professional sport? Well, professional starts at the top. Never would an NFL, NBA or other major sports official state there personal opinions publicly about a player and keep their job. I now question every call Yves has ever made as a referee. Hopefully no fighter ever has to step into a fight with Yves Lavigne as referee. Better get that resume ready Lavigne…..”

Until the statements are proven true, I support Yves Lavigne. I think he's on the level.

I'm sure Kos was just responding to the supposed "false" statements, but he still laid into Yves. Yves made a couple sketch calls in his career (every ref has), but overall he's a pretty good ref.

If the interview is proven to be false then I hope Kos is at least man enough to retract these statements.

Translated French to English translation

The American Josh Koscheck, who will face the champion welterweight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Montreal's Georges St-Pierre, December 11 at the Bell Centre, will not last long, as the referee deemed Yves Lavigne.

"In his last fight at the Bell Centre in fact, he was afraid of getting hit and was content to keep his opponent (Britain's Paul Daley) to the ground," said the official Quebec. The supporters had booed and Daley, frustrated with his attitude in the fight, had even hit after the duel! "

"I think that George, as in their first match (won by unanimous decision by St-Pierre in August 2007), will dominate," he continued. It has improved its air strikes. Koscheck will probably try to head off to GSP with a big right hand, like Matt Serra did, but when he sees that it does not work and it will reach, it will reverse. "

Montreal

What is surprising, according to the sole arbitrator in Quebec to evolve in the UFC is that Koscheck (15-4) return to fight in the city, especially in front of St Peter's (21-2), who will have the crowd behind him .

The fighter of Pennsylvania raised the ire of supporters of the Bell Centre on May 8 after his last victory on Daley, saying he would eventually kick his ass in St Peter's, as the Pittsburgh Penguins would beat the ( which finally proved wrong, the Habs won the series in seven games).

"I am a little surprised because he said he would never return. Supporters had not failed in his last appearance here, "Lavigne launched, thereby ensuring that the Bell Centre was packed, no matter the opponent of St. Peter.

Who else?

After the duel against Koscheck expected in the final gala UFC 124, it seems that candidates to face GSP are scarce. Only two or three fighters could give some problems in Quebec.

"In fact, 170 pounds, also St-Pierre, I have the impression that the fighters have stopped evolving," he analyzed. After Koscheck, he will have maybe two fights at welterweight before retiring. "

"Jon Fitch, a tough guy who had already lasted five rounds against George and won all his fights since, is probably the next to face him," he continued. The winner of the battle between the jiu-jitsu specialist Jake Shields and the Dane Martin Kampfmann could also attempt to rob him of his crown. Shields, on the ground, would be the most dangerous rival for St-Pierre, but it is not good standing. "

A possible break?

If all goes as planned and that the native of St. Isidore is the house in the welterweight, he may need a good rest before returning to the octagon.

"It would not be surprising that he takes a break for a year and a half or two, said the summit of mixed martial arts. If he wants to climb to 185 lbs and challenge the Brazilian Anderson Silva, he must take 15 pounds of muscle, while not affecting his speed and cardio. It is not shouting chisel. "
Did referee Yves Lavigne says Koscheck will be eaten alive by GSP?

I doubt Yves or any other referee who has been in the business that long would be stupid enough to comment that candidly about any fight or fighter.

But, Koscheck did bitch about the 2 former UFC ring girls before they were fired. Yves on the other hand can't get fired because he is hired/picked by the commission. Even with the commission picking the referees, if the UFC does take this seriously, then I doubt we will see Yves ref in Nevada first (where the UFC has the most pull, and their current Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Marc Ratner was with the commission for more than 20 years)

So, if you don't see Yves reffing in Nevada at any UFC event in the next couple months, then I would expect that he really is in the dog house and the UFC is taking the allegations seriously (which they shouldn't)
