It might not be fair to Maia, but it's the reality of the situation.
With that in mind, if I'm the UFC, I'm trying to keep Maia relevent, for whenever Silva loses/retires/changes weight. At the same time, you don't want him picking off other top contenders such as Belfort, Sonnen, etc. So that leaves you with up-and-comers, or name fighters that aren't exactly in top contention right now.
Did that aleviate your head itch?

This is hilarious.
After Demians last fight, I can't really disagree with the matchup.
I've always liked Kendall since TUF, and I really hope he wins this.
I would be SO happy if Kendall won this, let alone submit Demian, now that would be absolutely fantastic.

Maia is the higher class of fighter. But those long legs of kendall scare me. I have a feeling in my gut that maia gets caught in da spiders triangle. Although unlikely because maia is ridiculous at bjj ADCC champ. But I still have a feeling bitch ass grove catchs him

Grove is one hard guy to submit, and also is very good off his back with those long legs. I do think Maia can get Grove down but I dunno if he'll submit him..But it is Maia and he can submit anyone on any given day..
Plain and simple, Grove needs to use his reach advantage and kicks and to take this fight in the clinch and he'll have a good shot at winning this fight

There's no way Grove is submitting Maia.........Grove is good, but Maia is arguably the best BJJ practitioner in the game right now. It's a huge opportunity for Grove, though. A win would automatically catapult him right up there.
Another very interesting matchup.......I can't wait to see it!

IMO, Kendall is in the lower half of the division and Maia is in the upper half. UFC must be tryng to hype him up because they're putting him against Maia could have been one more win away from another title shot...if they had put him against a big name.

before I saw Demian fight Miranda and had him in full mount AND had his back several times and couldn't get the submission, and he was really trying too, because he was tired after the 1st and 2nd round. By the 3rd, there was no way he was getting it.
And his striking skills are well...yeah.
I'm cheering for the Hawaian!

I'm cheering for the Hawaian! | Itīs really hard to sub a guy with good sub defence who is only trying to survive, if Kendal starts grappling with Maia heīs going to get tapped fast. And if Maia gets him down i donīt see Kendal just laying there and surviving but trying to get back on his feet or attacking on the ground.

I'm cheering for the Hawaian! | You are right, Maia did not look like himself in his last fight. I have to believe that was the exception, and not the new rule. I think we'll see the Maia we're used to in this next fight.
