| Lesnar needs to change up his camp for Velasquez Quote:
Brock Lesnar may appear to be all brute force, but there's a lot more science to what he's been doing in the cage. He's not quite on the game-planning level of Randy Couture, but Lesnar has come up with and executed a few good ones early in his career.
Erik Paulson, who's worked with Lesnar heavily over the years, predicted the arm-triangle choke that got him the win over Shane Carwin at UFC 116. But he thinks Cain Velasquez is going to be a different animal and Lesnar will need his camp to implement something new for the Oct. 23 fight in Anaheim.
"He's gonna try to bring in quality guys and formulate a game plan," Paulson told FightHubTV.com (6:00 mark). "I already know a game plan that would work for him, [but] it's just a word of advice. Whether or not he follows through with that, it's up to him."
Lesnar works out of his gym in Minnesota and his head coach is former NCAA wrestling champ Marty Morgan. Before the Carwin fight, he had guys like Chris Tuchscherer, Jon Madsen, Cole Konrad in the camp along with a quick visit from Randy Couture. Those guys are all wrestlers by nature. Paulson suggests that the cardio first plan before the Carwin fight needs to be altered.
"What Brock needs more than anything is good sparring partners who can kickbox and grapple. So he's got to get some guys in his camp that can throw down with good striking, good takedowns and good takedown defense," said Paulson. "I'm sure the goal for the camp will be to bring in some good strikers."
Paulson may not sound too bullish on his guy, but he does point out that Velasquez also has a big challenge in front of him.
"There's a big size difference with Brock," Paulson said of the 240-pound Velasquez. "He's a good wrestler so he can stop stuff, get out of stuff, [but] I don't know if he's used to going with something who's as big and powerful as Brock. Finding someone that's actually equally as aggressive and powerful as Brock [will be tough]."
The 265-pound Lesnar defends his UFC heavyweight title against Velasquez at UFC 121.

I cant fucking wait . No amount of gameplan change will prepare Brock for the pace cain can keep. Brock is an animal but he looked tired against Carwin and Velasquez has cardio for days.Cain by TKO rnd 4.

i like cain as much as the next guy and ive got brown pride too... just not tatooed but anyway brock is going to smash cain and then if mir beats cropcop brock going to get away with murder in a rubber match, and mir is still my favorite heavyweight if cain is serious about beating brock he needs to get someone as big and strong as brock and only carwin comes to mind, it like apollo creed coming to the aid of rocky to beat clubber lang except nothing like that. cain is awesome and he's also going to become a prime example of why we need another division of small heavyweights sandwiched by 205 and 245-265, brock is going to ragdoll him and cain's heart and cardio will only prolong the agony.

But the weight divisions should be every ten pounds. 125 135 145 155 165 175 185 195 205... and then make a 225pound division. Then the rest can be HW. you cant dilute the HW div. too much.

To me, this is the classic matchup of the irresistable force in Cain vs. the immovable object in Lesnar. I do not have a pick for this fight as I am a fan of both fighters. I cannot wait until next month.

This fight is extremely interesting because Cain is a smart fighter and won't go all in for a knockout and get exhausted. Will Lesnar be able to take Cain down and ground and pound him? There's a good bit of questions to be answered and that is what makes this intriguing to many fans.

If I were Brock, I'd be taking anything Paulson says as gospel. While I appreciate that Brock uses an decorated NCAA wrestling coach as his head trainer, Eric Paulson is one of the greatest MMA coaches on the planet (2009 MMA Trainer of the Year nominee) and his fighting credentials speak for themselves. Brock isn't dumb, so I'm sure he'll take the advice - as much as I dislike him, I see Brock winning this.
