I catagorically disagree. Sonnen made one mistake, not a series of mistakes, and that's just recently.

I also don't think comparing Bisping to Fitch is fair; only 3 of Bisping's 19 wins are decisions. Nearly all of his fights are fast paced, exciting, and back and forth wars. People hate him for his attitude, but I don't think that many people go grab a beer or a smoke when a Bisping fight hits the 2nd round.
I think that's exactly the double standard...maybe not Bisping to Fitch, but Sherk gets a lot of shit for taking people down and simply shifting from side to mount, back to side, etc. That's a virtual grappling clinic, but casual fans don't find it "exciting" because it's not standing.

People find stand up exciting, even when it's stick-and-move pitty-pat striking. But they'll dismiss the same level of work by elite grapplers if they don't finish fights. Shields has ridiculous subs, simply crazy shit...but after the Mayhem fight, he was dismissed as a boring lay and prayer. That's exactly the double standard I'm talking about.

People can defend Fitch all they want, but what it really boils down to is hardly anyone wants to watch him fight. And, while his path to title shots are longer then most other fighters, he still got one, and he will probably get another soon if he wins 1 or 2 more fights.
People can talk smack about Fitch being boring all they want, but what it boils down to is that his resume equates to him deserving several rematches by now. Yes, he got a title shot, but no, he shouldn't have to win "1 or 2 more fights" until he gets another one.

With the exception of GSP, he's beaten everyone the UFC has thrown at him, some of them twice. Quick, name me one other WW who wouldn't get a title shot if he beat Alves tomorrow? Now factor in that Alves caps a 4 win streak since losing the title shot. You could take some rookie straight from the cornbelt, somebody nobody's ever heard of, debut him in the octagon, let him rack up a run like that, and he's getting a title shot. But Fitch still needs to win 1 or 2 more fights? C'mon, you know that's bullshit, and it's biased.

If Shields beats Kampmann should Fitch still get the title shot first, in your opinion?

Yes, even though I like Jake much more, and I've been waiting to see Jake fight Georges for years now. It comes down to the fact that Jon has put the time and effort in with the UFC. I don't see him beating Georges, so I think it's pretty academic...but he's more than earned a rematch, and it's bullshit that bullshit politics are preventing it.

I also think that with a second loss to Georges, Jon will probably move to MW, where his lack of size advantage will make fights more competative for him, and he'll be forced to evolve.

Sounds like the UFC needs a more "sports" focused way of deciding title shots. Like I've been saying, the pick and choose approach hurts MMA overall. Fitch could probably win 5 more fights and they might still find a way to keep him from a shot...meanwhile Sonnen gets a doe over against Silva. There's a good reason why fans don't and shouldn't run organizations......

They are being paid to entertain. If they aren't doing their job then something needs to happen. What happens when you go to work and blatantly in front of your boss just sit there and do the bare minimum? I'm sure in most cases it wouldn't fly.

That's a good analogy. Fitch wins a lot but bottom line the UFC still needs to sell pay-per-views. Ficth in the main event= no PPV buys.

Fans want to be entertained by fights, bottom line! Even die hard MMA fans (some, not all)don't look forward to JF cards. Heck I am a big fan of the ground game, often liking it more than the stand-up part. But, I don't like Fitch (as a fighter). Whenever his fights come up I see it as a bathroom break.
