Barnett wants Arlovski for Strikeforce debut
On Mauro Ranallo's radio show this morning, he threw four names at Barnett and told him to select the one fighter who would be the greatest choice from a business and 'personal' standpoint. Barnett's answer may surprise you.
“You know, one thing that just seems to keep following me around like a bad smell is a match-up with Andrei Arlovski, I don’t know why. It doesn’t matter whether he’s on a losing streak or a winning streak or Japan or the US, his name keeps popping up consistently. So I imagine he’s probably going to be the first on the list.”
The other fighters offered to Barnett in this hypothetical scenario were Fedor Emelianenko, Bigfoot Silva and Alistair Overeem.

I would personally love to see any of those matchups. The biggest question mark for me is whether Barnett can still be Barnett without the roids. He's used them for so long, can he still be the same fighter without them. It's not as if he tried them, got caught, and got clean - he failed 3 tests. It's a serious possibility that he's NEVER been clean, spending so much time fighting in countries who don't test.
If Barnett can be himself without the roids, I think he has the skillset to beat EVERY top ranked HW fighting in this country. I think he beats Brock without question. I think a fight with Fedor is a toss-up. And beyond that, I don't think anybody touches him.

I don't think he saying that he wants Arlovski as his debut for SF, just that's a match-up he's heard tossed around for a while so he's assuming Arlovski will be first at bat. From another article I've read about Barnett wanting to fight the top guys this seems to be steering directly away from that statement.

that would be a great fight, josh is very good on the ground but it will be a very good fight standing, aa should out strike him if he doesnt get hit, josh has some good power so i could also see him getting the tko over aa. I still cant forget barnett getting tooled by cc. when comparing hw divisions strikeforce has fedor, barnett, and possibly werdum. U put jds and werdum across each other when jds knocked him tfo? werdum is a wiz on the ground he is better than nog, mir, etc, and now he is a much more dangerous fighter than nog is, but he doesnt have the best takedowns and he would get ktfo by cain or carwin. Overeem has the best kickboxing at hw and is always a threat to anybody but you cannot forget that he lost to some of the ufc's top lhw's. he is still the same guy under all that muscle. he may be way stronger and have a lot better striking but im waiting for him to get hit and he will go down.

This is a good start considering that Arlovski's a big name and all....but he's coming off SEVERAL losses and hasn't yet recaptured that "eye of the tiger" and I'd really appreciate seeing Barnett taking on somebody on a little higher roll and if it's NOT gonna be Fedor off the bat on CBS like it absolutely, 100% SHOULD BE, I'd pull for Overeem after the K1 tourney to really establish the HW title in the 'Farce, because that has the starlevel and match quality to really main event a card stunningly.
If they're interested in giving Barnett a wider birth in with his debut, I'd be good with Rogers, who at least is only down two straight, but I think it'd be wiser for all involved to attempt to REBUILD Arlovski, rather than toss him yet again into the lion's den against another perenial HW contender.

| the only big names they have in the HW division. Thats why he only mentioned 4 names.
doubt he will get it Andrei. Andrei is fighting at K1. Not the tournament, but he is fighting there.

Definitely doesn't take big balls to call out a man on a 3 fight losing streak. Don't blame him it was the steroid use.

Great match-up. Barnett would destroy andre but still interesting. I wonder what happened to andre. He at the time could have been the baddest man on the planet but sometime in the silvia fights, he lost that instinct. It's like he has no confidence once the bell rings or something. I hope him the best and just wanna see the most intriguing fights that make sense and some that don't.
