| The UFC and the fans owe Anderson Silva a HUGE THANK YOU
I'll be the first to say it. Thank You Anderson Silva for saving the UFC, the fans, and MMA from the shame and embarrassment of having another champion involved in a steroid scandal. Just imagine if Silva had not locked on that triangle? What would the fallout have been like for the sport? I personally think that if Sonnen loses his appeal he's out of the UFC. Doesn't matter if you are a Anderson Silva fan or not, I think you should thank the man for saving the sport the indignity of having to defend itself against the media and especially those dumb ass New York State politicians.

I'll second that. However when I read the headline before clicking on the thread I thought "oh boy, another one from Ed Soares saying we should thank Anderson"

All I know is the Belfort vs Silva fight is a lot more interesting to me than a Sonnen rematch. Hopefully in the next year we get to see Silva vs Belfort and then Silva vs Okami.

Isn't Sonnen still contesting this? And didn't Dodd sound kind of iffy about it all in his statment?..... Or am I wrong and he's been found guilty of the whole ordeal already?

I will probably get negged for suggesting this, but isn’t it possible that Sonnen let Anderson submit him? He dominated Anderson for 23 minutes, and never put himself in any sort of danger, then all of a sudden with 2 minutes left, it was like what the F$#@ is he doing, he makes himself vulnerable for a triangle and ..... He knew he was going to get caught and even warned the CSAC before that he was going to piss dirty. Pissing dirty as the Champion versus the current situation would likely have attained a much higher level of negative press for the UFC, reducing the chance the Dana would let Sonnen back in the UFC
Potential Sonnen mind set:
ooo00OO "I have showed I can dominate Anderson, I already know I am going to piss dirty, it is better not to win the title and have this blow over than winning the title and being the front page story "UFC Champion fails Steriod Test, UFC Dirty sport"..., if that happens Dana will never give me another shot in the UFC "
Some may argue that past champions have pissed dirty (Sherk and Timmy but I guess not Barnett) and come back to the UFC, but the UFC gets a larger amount of the media attention now than it did 3 -5 years ago when the previous failed tests occurred so a current champion testing positive for something would be much more detrimental.

Anyone ever consider that this was part of Sonnen's plan all along?
I'd be almost willing to bet that in the end, he wins the appeal, no harm, no foul, which in turns makes the rematch with Anderson that much more intresting (and profitable).
Sonnen seems to be a really smart dude. I don't think he'd screw up the rest of his career like this. I won't be surprised if this is all a part of Sonnen's plan.
That would also explain a few things:
1) Dodd's iffiness when talking about the situation
2) Dana & Co, setting up a rematch when they knew his test would be dirty
3) Sonnen fessing up to being dirty, but, not offering an explainaiton.
When this all plays out I have a feelings that we'll all be saying, "Damn, he played us again".
It just all seems a little too fishy and coincidental to me.
