Vera was expected to get the next shot at the title of UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim Sylvia, but Zuffa has a logical policy in place of not giving title shots to fighters who are not under multi-fight contracts, so Vera is not going to get a title shot unless he signs a multi-fight contract extension.

If Vera does sign an extension, then he is still very likely to be the next fighter to challenge for the UFC Heavyweight Title, assuming that the UFC is also successful in extending Sylvia's contract. If Sylvia signs a multi-fight contract extension and Vera doesn't, the next logical challenger for the title among the UFC's current crop of heavyweights would be the winner of the UFC 66 fight between Andrei Arlovski and Marcio "Pe de Pano" Cruz, although Sylvia and Arlovski have already fought each other three times.

Oh god, is the heavyweight division this poor? They are gonna have to put AA-Sylvia 4 on with one hell of another fight for me to order it. I love watchin AA but we've seen it 3 times already.

NO WAY, there is no way in hell that Dana trys to sell another AA/Sylvia mathup this soon. Maybe down the line but not now, the only way we see AA/Sylvia 4 in 07 is on free tv.

You know, even though it will be the 4th time, I would love to see it. Not a Tim fan, and when he beat Arlovski I just wanted to puke. I would love for Arlovski to even up the score.
If Arlovski could get that title back, things would be back where they should be in the UFC. A champ that is an animal, rather than a strategic striker with a foot long reach advantage.

No disrespect to Tim, but Arlovski as Champ makes the UFC HW division look better from the outside. Plus his title defences were so much better to watch. You would be excited to see what Arlovski would do next. So explosive.

I agree that I would lose to see AA beat Sylvia and regain the title because I can't stand to watch Sylvia fight. But It worries the hell out of me to shit to a best of 5 situation, especially this quickly. Hopefully Vera signs the contract and we don't have to worry about this atleast until down the road.

Veras lookin for cash though....if ufc isnt gonna pay him he's just gonna go to the next promotion that will...were gonna end up seein AA VS Sylvia 4...and i'll agree with the earlier post that the only way they should even attempt this is on free tv. but ya know damn well sylvias gonna bitch about that

I'd love to see AA submit Sylvia like in their 1st match but this would be a AA/Sylvia 4. I was hoping more for someone like Vera to beat Sylvia first and then AA take on Vera. I think the fans still want AA to have the title so they just may give him that shot again depending on how well he does at UFC 66.

I concur. Thats why im so inclined to believe they will sign Mirko because without him (and Heath to a lesser extent) there are about 2 meaningful fights left in the HW division and thats it. Also look at the projected cards for the next few PPVS and without a few big name additions (Cro Cop, Rampage, Machida) they would be very dull cards. I would love to see Sylvia/Vera and Cro Cop/AA on the same card wit Herring/Hardonk or Kongo on the undercard, would be a night to showcase a much improved division.

as much as i want to see AA knock the crap out of sylvia, i really would rather not pay to watch it again.
now if it were on free tv,i think that would be awesome.
also if CC doesnt come to the ufc then really there is no other choice for the title. (if vera doesnt resign)
