| Bráulio Estima says Rahad is a legit black belt World champ approves Rashad’s black belt :: TATAME Quote:
World champ approves Rashad’s black belt
Thursday 30th of September 2010 09:19 AM
Right after beating Thiago Silva on UFC 108, Rashad Evans was graduated a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black belt from the hands of Rolles Gracie. The attitude created some controversy even between the family members, but the BJJ world champion Bráulio Estima, who trained with Rashad, assured the black belt of the former UFC champion is legit. “When I knew Rolles have given him the black belt I also thought about it for a while. But then I went there and I saw it. He’s on a black belt level, he’s good. Man, I can say for sure I’ve trained with over 50 black belts that he could actually kill. I swept, caught him, but I’m on my best and I only do this. He knows how to sweep and passes the guard very well, he’s very good”, Bráulio told Sensei Sportv’s blog.
| I don't know, when I think of great BJJ practitioners, I don't think of Rashad Evans.

Eh, isnt Wanderlei Silva a blackbelt? I guess being a blackbelt isnt that impressive to me unless you are actually using your jits for more than defense. Hell, Cole Miller isnt a blackbelt and I am more impressed with his jiu jitsu than I am with Rashad's.

Please. OF course Bráulio Estima says it's Legit....doesn't want to stir the pot! He was already given the belt. I Quote "He passes the gaurd very well." That's it...give him a black belt.
Here's a laugh....go through the fight finder stats and Rashd has submitted only two guys back in 2004..that's IT! Here's the funny part.......ONE to strikes and the other guy has been subbed 40 times! Yes 40 times!
Rashad is a black belt in "bobble head disco dancing dry humping" thats' it!

Not everyone uses their BJJ in the same fashion, for example how many time has Rashad been tapped out?

how many submissions does BJ have other than rear naked chokes???? and he's supposed to be the prodigy b/c of his jits. I have to agree with lethal just because they're a black belt doesn't mean they have to go showcase it every time. Look at the diaz bro's how many times do you see them looking to take it to the ground. Matt serra prefers to strike aswell. There's many jits guys that would rather stand and bang and use their jits to deter people from taking it to the ground. Not suprised at all rashad has been in the game long enough and is atheletic enough to earn a black belt as he's been training with jacksons submission camp since 2005. five years may be quick for some of us to get a black belt but for a highly trained wrestler they should be able to advance much quicker with previous experience in grappling with his wrestling. I moved up much quicker in maui thai with my boxing experience than guys who started even as much as a year before me

bad news for shogun, although i dont worry about him getting hurt i do foresee him losing his belt in a very boring decision, he is good on the ground but rashad isnt randallman. shogun also isnt machida when it comes to tdd.
how legit a blackbelt is rashad nobody except for his training partners know but i can guess who ends up on top in most of their grappling matches.

Matt Hughes isnt a black belt and that guy is a great submission artist. Some people like to go for sub's, others dont. And their are different black belts, like Nelson, Mir, Anderson are around the same level, while Maia, Rousimar, Shields are far above.

Good to see people are realizing you don't need a string of amazing subs to be a blackbelt. Rashad just uses his jits differently than other fighters.

Most of B.J.'s subs come from hurting his opponents previously with strikes and I don't think that B.J. has any subs from the bottom, B.J. is completely a top game submission fighter.

this is great now it will be more impressive when shogun rips his leg off via heel hook.
