The criticism stems from the fact that none of the guys listed in the post were ranked top ranked fighters, and he still didn't finish them. They were--at best--softly ranked by some sites--perfectly illustrated by how quickly dropped entirely right out of the rankings once the title hype was over--and he did nothing to bring the fight to them.

People criticize Georges for being conservative--justifiably so--but Anderson is no different. GSP plays it safe on the ground, Anderson uses reach advantage and mobility to play it safe standing--against guys who aren't even great strikers.

Granted, there was a period where Anderson was chasing a record so he could cash in against RJJr, but it's hypocritical to accept his motivation for conservative performances and simultaneously disregard Georges'. Much like it's hypocritical to disparage the quality of Fedor's opponents--who were ranked--after he beats them, but not do the same to St. Pierre's or Silva's.

I've got to repeat what the others guys have said, because it's a point that really does need to be stressed:

EDGAR?!?! NUMBER 2?!?! WHAT?!?!
If Edgar hadn't beaten Penn twice then there's no way he would have eve been placed within the top 5. Until Edgar clears out his division (with relative ease), I can't accept him as being near the top.

No denying, he's got some skills, but out-striking Penn shouldn't mean you automatically earn top-two p4p status. Edgar has a LOT left to prove before he earns that, eg: Defending his title against someone other than the guy he beat to earn the belt.

Dana White is a fukin idiot. I have a Q n A session with him before ufc 83 and he said if GSP went on anothes tear he would be the best. Since then he beat Serra, Fitch, BJ, Alves n hardy. All of the sudden Edgar is ahead. And why is he ahead cause he beat BJ twice. GSP beat BJ twice too and finished him! Danas opinion is officially meaningless.

Edgar is in the P4P top 10 no doubt, but GSP is #1, plain and simple.

Beating the #4 P4P guy twice, and dominating him once, puts you up there dude. I usually always agree with you but come on man, give the man some credit.

...actually, it's pretty controversial that either of them beat him twice.

Georges dominated him in the second fight, for sure...but that's hardly an accomplishment pound for pound...he's a LOT bigger then Penn. Edgar--while I wouldn't say it was a "dominant" performance, as it was entirely predicated on scoring points and staying out of danger--beat him convincingly the second fight, and that is an accomplishment pound for pound, as Penn is significantly bigger than Frankie.

No, it wouldn't be fighter bashing, and I agree that dana is a dick, and one who knows absolutely nothing about pound for pound.

Agree, the first fight bj was doing well and gsp got nice takedown to get the decision and the second fight no arguments there. The first fight with edgar was controversial and the second fight frankie clearly won, but did he ever have bj in trouble or have him hurt, no. edgar would not engage as to get a finish standing, and would go for a takedown when he wanted to get out of the standup and clearly won on points. If i had to choose who would be more likely to finish the other between bj and frankie it would still definetly be bj, frankie wouldnt be able to finish him but would fight for points, which he usually does. really looking foward to maynard/edgar...

Yes, dana says some stupid shit a lot, im not saying that he doesnt know anything but you question what he says on many occasions. after so many fights with a striker and a wrestler he will always say after the fight if the striker lost "i dont understand why he didnt throw more kicks"
