Dana White Hints at a WEC Announcement That Will "Blow Your Mind"

Would you salivate over a super-fight between Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar? I would.

Here's an interesting nugget that you might have missed on Carmichael Dave's pound-for-pound debate with Dana White:

I brought up the fact that Silva had the opportunity to test the 205 division when he had cleared out his 185-pound division, and since Aldo had all but done the same in the 155 division, would he also get an opportunity?

This is where Dana White puts back on his president's hat, if there is such a thing. Known for fantastic quotes, he also knows when to be coy.

"The (expletive) we are going to do in the next year is going to blow your mind," he added. When asked if that meant anything from a WEC/UFC merger to an Edgar/Aldo superfight, he artfully dodged.

"You'll just have to sit back and watch. You have no idea the crazy (expletive) we're working on."

Naturally, the first thing that comes to mind is the possibility of seeing the best 145 and 135 pounders in the UFC. I actually don't know, or care, about how Zuffa would do it - may it be a straight merger or by just adding extra weight classes while keeping the WEC alive - but what I do know is, the best featherweight and bantamweight fighters in world deserve the recognition, exposure, and the money, that their heavier counterparts have been enjoying.

That being said, this hint could mean absolutely anything, so let's just hope that a merger is what Dana is talking about, because as Kid Nate mentioned, it's time...

interesting...wouldnt mind seein aldo fight some guys from the ufc, if he could go up and still be in top form, that way we find out if his spot on the p4p list is deserving...when he fights top comp

Not holding my breath with "Dana's earth shattering news"....He's screwed us too many times with false promises of "HUGE" news....hell, he still owes us one from the Silva/Maia debacle!

um...Ben Henderson is the 155 lb champ, not aldo. It likely has to be with merging wec with the ufc....? I don't know, i gave up on Dana's explicit flirtations ages ago.

Ummm last I checked Aldo is in the 145 lb divsion

Dana's big announcements all end up being big letdowns, so I'm not really interested in anything he promises as a big announcement...I'm guessing one of the things is the 125 lb division they've been talking about for so long, but who knows

"Blow mind" are too big words. The Only thing that Dana would announce that would indeed blew my mind is that they signed Fedor or that they selled PRIDE FC back to FEG so Pride will reborn.
Neither of those 2 things will ever happen.

Aldo vs Edgar would be a very interesting match indeed, but its not the match of the century either. For me Frankie Edgar is not a spectacular fighter at all.

BTW I have one question, Dana said that after the UFC 112 fiasco he would do something really huge for the fans. When does he plans to do that?

^^This.

One thing I do agree with about that article is that the lighter weight classes do deserve the same amount of exposure and money that the heavier ones do. As far as the "big news" goes, I'm not even going to acknowledge anything Dana says until it's all said and done.

I think its going to be that he made UFC 120 free on spike...witch is really stupid because that show would have already been free on spike regardless of what went down at 112...the last big show that was free was 105, so it was already time for a free show on spike...

But hopefully, its not that because that would suck...I want Dana to give us something that would really get us pumped...I should send a message to Ariel Helwani to ask Dana that question and get it cleared up for us fans..

Last time he was asked about that he got pissed and said some bullshit like we have to wait, that he already works way too much so we should shut the fuck up and wait (wel he didnt said that we should shut the fuck up, but he was veri pissed at that question lol)
