Better off without a dominant champion, p4p top 3 fighter who is undefeated in the last 4 years and has routinely shown off moves that no other fighter is even capable of? Who has EVER made Rich Franklin look like an amateur the way Anderson did? For that matter, who has ever treated Chris Leben like a punching bag or made Forrest Griffin and James Irvin wonder why they should have even shown up to fight? With the way he beat Leites and Demian Maia, Anderson Silva has become a polarizing figure in MMA, and that is a GOOD thing. This thread has gotten 5 pages deep in 5 hours. Most threads on this site don't get 4 pages deep at all. I don't count the Patrick Cote fight as a poor performance because I think Anderson respected Cote's punching power and was intentionally drawing out a long fight to look for the right time to finish. He knew that it only takes one punch from Cote to end his night.

First, I agree with the rest of your post, but I'm addressing this sentence.

Fighters get to claim who is worthy or unworthy of a fight because WE post on forums like this all the time about who is worthy of what fight.

I don't know about you, but I'm not arrogant enough to believe that I have the right to have an opinion on whether or not Chael Sonnen, Shogun Rua or BJ Penn deserved an immediate rematch but the fighters themselves are not entitled to their opinions on the matter.

I love Anderson Silva. He pisses off Dana, and he's right that Sonnen didn't deserve a rematch, he got submitted right? simple.

i think fighters should have a say but however doing it with every challenger your boss puts in front of you i have a problem with. as a champ you should defend your title at all times. look how pissed the mma world is at overeem. i know thats a way differnet story but similar along the lines of saying whoever isnt worthy.

Sonnen deserved a rematch until he was found out to be a cheater...

Silva has not said every single fighter is not worthy of a title shot. He accepted both fights from Franklin at face value, he said Maia did because of his win over Sonnen. He didn't question the first fight with Henderson.

He might have had his camp criticize other match ups, but it's not like he's turning down fights. He fights who gets put in front of him, and if he wants to say Sonnen doesn't deserve a rematch, well he is just agreeing with 50% or so of fans. He is also usually very respectful of his opponents before and after the fight, unlike a lot of fighters out there.

Its because he didn't want to make excuses BEFOREHAND. Most people get blasted for even mentioning an injury, despite most fighters not being 100% by fight time. The idea that a doped up Sonnen couldn't beat an injured Anderson is proof enough that a rematch doesn't need to made, at least not immediately.

My thoughts on the rematch. The fight was finished, it wasn't a bad decision or a bad call by the ref....Sonnen had almost 5 rounds to finish the fight and couldn't. Anderson finished Sonnen by tapout. That should be the end of the story. Sonnen needs to work his way back up like every other fighter than has been beat. The only reason he was getting an immediate shot is because he came the closest to beating Anderson and that is the UFC's only chance at humbling Anderson....it wasn't because Chael deserved it. He got beat fair and square...how does that deserve an immediate rematch? While we are at it, why not give Carwin an immediate rematch.
