I disagree. I think Diego is a better wrestler then both Hughes and GSP.

Diego is still very young and he understands that, whenever Rogan asks him if he is ready for the title shot (aside from him saying "whatever is in God's plans for me") he always says he wants to keep fighting and getting better so he likely feels he could face St. Pierre, Hughes or Penn but knows those are much more difficult fights than his previous fights.

However do think that Diego is a better wrestler than Hughes, has better standup than Hughes and has KO power, is much quicker than Hughes, has a pretty even submission game with Hughes and is very slick on the ground. There cardio would be very even.

I think Diego would beat Hughes, the matchup is really nice for Diego IMO.

Diego vs Penn is a much more difficult matchup due to Bj having great standup and great td defense however the cardio issue is still there so Diego would have a very good chance in that fight as well, he would likely lose round 1 and then start really pushing the pace in round 2 to wear Penn down and then would finish him in round 3-4.

Diego vs St. Pierre is another very difficult matchup, St. Pierre manhandled Sherk and Sherk is a better wrestler than Diego, however Sherk has very short arms and no KO power in the standupm while Diego has much better standup than Sherk and Hughes, it is not as good as St. Pierre's and St. Pierre is just as fast as Diego. Diego has better wrestling but is outmatched in strength, their cardio is likely very even. Diego would probably get picked apart in the standup right now but in 6-12 months as long as Diego continues to train with the Mexican Olympic boxing team, his standup will be good enough to at least stand with St. Pierre and not get completely dominated but even then, St. Pierre is a complete fighter so he is goignt o be very difficult for anyone to beat. If Penn trains cardio, he can do it.

as ive stated before i think hughes is the only one that deigo can beat, and i disagree saying deigo can finish penn, matt is the only person to ever do that and he was greatly injured, he fought at 205 or heavy i cant remember and still didnt get hurt, so saying deigo could finish him is a little far fetched, and even when matt was pounding his face with like 20 punches penn still wasnt hurt, but i do take back by saying gsp's wrestling is better, he just wouldnt be able to take gsp down, gsp is better in everything but wrestling , but he would stop the take downs, and i think gsp would finish deigo in the middle of the second round, and for penn, you said finish him in 3-4 round, seeing it wouldnt be for a title there is no 4th round, so bj wouldnt be gassing that bad, look what he did with gsp, very close, but gassed a little, im sure he is working on that, and i belive penn could easily finish it but i would say the fight would go all 3 round, with penn dominating all 3 rounds, even if deigo could take him down penn is so limber and squirrly that he could take his back and sub him, see what he did to hughes, and hughes is alot better on the ground, but i do believe deigo could beat hughes but i still give the edge to hughes right now, but penn and gsp i think would dominate the fight , if anything penn would dom 2 round and if he gassed would probally loose the 3rd but no way deigo is good enough right now or ever to finish penn off

Diego is a far better grappler than you are giving him credit for, he went 10 minutes with Marcelo Garcia before Garcia subbed him.

Penn has had cardio problems and did not fix them, he dominated St. Pierre in round 1 but gassed after that. Against Hughes, he dominated round 1 and in round 2, before the injury, Hughes was able to get the takedown so it is evident that Penn was tiring already as he was able to stuff the takedowns in round 1 but they were wearing on him.

Also, what Penn did to Hughes was because Hughes is so muclular, he is not a very athletic guy in the first place whereas Diego is very athletic, quick and very crafty on the ground. It would be a great fight, if Penn came into the fight with the same cardio as his past 2 fights I see Diego bein able to wear him down and survive the 1st round onslaught, if Penn has improved his cardio, I don't see anyone beating him but when facing the world class guys, it is a war of nutrition.

As long as Diego continues training with the Mexican Olympic boxing team, I see him becomeing a huge force at WW and he and St. Pierre seperating themselves from the rest of the division. Had Matt Hughes just trained with Olympic boxers in the past 5 years, the guy would've been nearly unbeatable, not standup equates to a very difficult title to gain or retain in todays MMA world.

i agree with the part saying if penn gets his cardio up to par he will be a force, but i dont think deigo could beat him in a 3 round fight even with the cardio he has had, spec the cardio in the gsp fight,

Personally i think its total shit giving fighters rematch title fights directly after losing their titles. Arlovski got one and the rematch was sooooo damn boring. I do sort see the reasoning in his case tho as he was truly the only person at the time that could have fought for the belt at heavy, but with the WW division being as stacked as it is, giving hughes an immediate title shot makes no sense. He hasnt proven he has bounced back from his loss yet, so why would we believe the rematch will go down any different. IMO, i think Diego should get the title shot in April and have Hughes fight someone like Karo or Kos and then get his shot. I would say Hughes v Penn 3 for #1 contender but it looks like BJ is gonna be wrapped up in TUF coaching followed by a fight with Jens so that should take up the next 4-6 months. I really cant see why anyone would say Diego doesnt deserve a title shot. Yes, he hasnt beaten the "top 3" WW but alls he can do is fight who is put in front of him. Hughes, GSP and Penn have all been wrapped up in fighting each other for just about the last year. During that time Diego won every fight thrown at him. He shouldnt have to beat every fuckin WW in the division before he gets his shot. In closing, i hate the TUF 4 fighters getting title shots....its basically the reason for all this dumb shit. Swick and Diego would both be fighting for belts in their next fights if it wasnt for that.
