| TUF 5 Coaches announced
so i guess its official, BJ Penn is the second coach for TUF5. i think everyone knew that, and building up to a rematch between the two, which we all expected too. but what we didn't expect was the fight is going to be on Spike! i'm particularly excited as Pulver/Penn is one of my favorite matches ever. i hope Jens brings his A-Game though, b/c Penn's only gotten better since then.

This is excellent news. I hope to see who makes the better coach. I imagine it will be interesting. What I want to know is if they can keep things professional and not let their future match get in the way of their coaching. But then again drama sells so it'll probably be a given. I guess that also means that for the mean time, Bj Penn isn't fighting at welterweight so I guess we'll have to wait a while for the rubber match and Penn vs. GSP II.

it doesn't necessarily mean the fight will be at lightweight. penn usually fights around 166, so they could do a 160/165 catchweight similar to what hughes did with gracie.

i agree, BJ has said he doesn't want to fight 155. so i would imagine they will fight at a catch weight. but you never know Dana is probably setting the winner of this fight up for a title shot. with them both coming off losses it makes alot of sense to try to pick them both back up. whatever it may be i'm looking foward to seeing them fight. and the fact that its going to be on spike is pretty big. i think it shows that Zuffa is willing to give us good matches on free tv.

I think the coaches were great selections. What I like about TUF show is that it gives you a real insight into not only the lives and personalities of the fighters, but also the coaches.
I was more of a Shamrock fan than a Tito fan before the show, and now its completly opposite. I hate Shamrock for being the worst coach ever and I respect Tito for laying it all out there for his group.
I look forward to seeing them coach, especially because BJ's training and conditioning has been questioned in the past.

I agree. BJ is just so gifted that it seems like he would have a hard time coaching newcomers. It's been my experience that phenoms like him don't translate into great coaches. Usually it's the guys who have to work at it extra hard who become amazing coaches. See Magic Johnson and Isiah Thomas in the NBA.

My only question is are Penn and Pulver gonna wait till July till have their next fights? TUF 5 season doesn't start till April so that makes the Finale somewhere in the end of June or the beginning of July. That is a six month layoff. These guys need to have at least one fight in between this matchup cough*Pennvs.Diego*cough.

yeah, i didn't even think about them not fighting until then. i doubt they will, especially since pulver has been a wildcard since coming back to the octagon. i can only imagine how pissed dana was when he lost to lauzon. and with penn, the only fight that makes sense to put him in is diego and i doubt they'll do that because he can beat diego and if he does then they're out a #1 contender for the title.
