Thiago Alves isn't moving to MW/ would like to fight Dan Hardy.

Thiago Alves witnessed firsthand as Dan Hardy got knocked out by Carlos Condit at UFC 120, but he admits he would love to fight the Briton in the future.

Hardy suffered the first KO of his MMA career in a first-round loss to Condit on Saturday, making it two defeats on the spin following his failed title shot against Georges St-Pierre. The Outlaw now faces a 30-day medical suspension, after which he will set about erasing the pain of his latest loss as soon as possible.

The UFC is known to have a liking for putting two fighters who are coming off defeats both in the same Octagon, which makes a Hardy v Alves collision a possibility after the Brazilian's loss to Jon Fitch. And Alves admits he would happily fight Hardy in England if that was what the UFC had in mind.

"I don't pick my fights, but if Joe Silva says we should match up, I think it'd be a great fight for me. I think he's a great fighter, so let's do it," Alves told ESPN. "I really don't have a specific place to fight in. Once I step in the Octagon, that's home for me. So if it happens to be here [in England], good. If it's in American, that's fine. Brazil? I'm ready for that too."

Those words would appear to confirm that Alves is staying in the welterweight division, despite failing to cut weight for his Fitch encounter. UFC president Dana White stated clearly that he believes The Pitbull belongs at middleweight, but Alves is adamant he will stay at 170lbs.

alves should worry about howard and the wieght cut first...

Alves shouldn't get a choice of staying at WW. He keeps missing weight, and arguably his biggest win, which was against Hughes, will forever be tarnished by his inability to make weight.

I've mentioned my disdain for him and others like him, guys that are trying to maximize size advantage by sticking in a weight division they clearly shouldn't or can't realistically be in anymore. Alves needs to sack up and go to MW, IMHO.

I bet alves gets one last shot at making 170, if he fails to make weight this time they force him up to MW. Alves vs Hardy makes great sence and who wouldnt want to see Hardy get KTFO again?

Agreed, Alves needs to worry about cutting weight before he has anyplace trying to pick a match. Missing weight is one of the deadly sins for an MMA fighter. His height is a BS excuse for not wanting to move up to MW. Look at Serra he is a midget and at 170 ko'd GSP. Jeff Monson at HW, etc.. Cut back on the ding dongs and take your carreer you were blessed with serious. He has the skills but I think he is using his height as an excuse. IMHo

YEP that would be the fight he has set for DEC 11th VS John Howard
Alves has not ko'ed any one since June 2008 oh but wait he missed weight for that fight so does it really count :confusedsmilie: Well shit he did TKO a game Parisyan in April 2008 .
I not sure he could do the same to Dan

Leucoethiops 10-18-2010 04:41 PM

I'd rather see Alves fight Condit, but coming off a loss and a failed weight cut, he doesn't really deserve any steps up in competition, imo.

Not happening, no way Dana lets one of the UK boys go down three straight. Hardy's going to get Chris Lytle or Matt Serra and Alves gets winner of Sanchez/Thiago, loser of Kampmann/Shields or maybe Josh Koschek, but no way this happens.

end it with a left 10-18-2010 06:43 PM

well if they dont want hardy to lose three straight they wont be giving him matt serra or chris lytle two guy with solid chins and are significantly more well rounded. He might beat serra if he doesn't get put to sleep again but lytle would be 2 much for hardy. Give him anthony johson
