I can understand not standing people up in a BJJ, wrestling, or other non striking contest.
I am not one of those people that thinks as soon as it goes to the group the fight sucks. I am one of those people that think there is too little action on the ground.
If you watch Fedor, Ortiz, Courture, Barnett, etc.... those guys work like crazy when the match goes to the ground. Watch Matt Serra's TUF final and tell me that was an exciting fight. It wasn't...and not because it went to the ground, but because it went to the ground and for 15 minutes Serra couldn't get Lytle in a position to do anything.
And no...I am not comparing Serra to the fighters mentioned above, I am comparing the fights themselves.
And...oh yeah...because I got called a dumbass:
There are (as of this writing) 26 people on here that like to see ripped guys get sweaty and roll around on the floor with each other while grunting and pulling on each other. And maybe...oh please God, let it happen, just maybe one of them will cry out in pain and say "Please...no more...I can't take it anymore..."
Sounds like a prison movie to me....

Stand them up...all those BJJ guys that expect to pull guard and wear down their opponent for 12 minutes and them MAYBE get a sub need to learn to work better or faster or SOMETHING or else they are going to get stood up.
I think the misconception is that they will stand everyone up as soon as the fight goes to the ground. I don't think that is what they are going for...they are looking to stop the 15 minute "this is my full guard, this is my half guard, this is my north/south position, this is my half guard, look I threw exactly 2 fists, and an elbow, opps....times up...split decision for me!!!" fights.

The Serra?Lytle fight was barely on the ground and the moment it was on the ground Matt Serra was working the whole time and even got off a submission attempt. It's wasn't the most exciting fight in the world ,but I didn't think it was bad.....maybe mma ,is just not your sport ,maybe you should stick to kickboxing or something.I love all aspects of mma ,not just standup fighting.

Still nobody has explained how this rule is any different than the current UFC and Pride rule?
It is identical in nature. Only the interpretation remains to be seen.
And to all those saying that there need be no stand up rule, I got two words for ya:
Mat Hamill.

The Serra/Lytle fight was just the latest one that comes to mind of a boring ground game. There are many, many worse offenders out there with the Hypergit mentioning Hamill.
And...as Hypergit said...how is this different from the current rules?
It seems to me that by everyone's reasoning they should let them stay on the ground indefinitely and never stand them up. If that isn't the case, them please explain to me when you think they should be stood up.
