World Extreme Cagefighting is merging with its sister organization the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

In the video interview below, Dana White exclusively confirmed that the merger will take place in January 2011. In addition, White said that four UFC events will air live on Versus in 2011.

The final two WEC cards will air on the cable network on Nov. 11 and Dec. 16, which means that starting next year, the UFC will absorb WEC's 135, 145 and 155 weight classes.

White explained the timing of the decision and what this means for all parties involved. He also provided updates on what's next for Brock Lesnar and Tito Ortiz, as well as his take on the Undertaker-Lesnar exchange following UFC 121.

well i guess they arent getting a tv network of their own for a while. this will help though.
honestly all i want out of this deal is for the lighter fighters to make more money being on a bigger stage

Finally! The WEC was a horrible business model. Now Aldo, Faber, and co will get the recognition they deserve under the UFC brand. Two more titles can now augment UFC PPV's so we don't get crap main events like Mir-Cro Cop.

What matchups would you guys like to see for their 155 pound guys?

id say henderson vs edgar/maynard winner, perfect timing with henderson fighting in dec and the lw title fight on jan 1st

i got a feeling the lighter guys will be more relegated to prelims...

I think it's a good thing. But I don't think it will be as bad as you say (being relegated to prelims). I think the lighter weight guys tend to have more exciting fights so they'll definitely alternate I think to keep the crowds warm.

Cerrone-Gomi would be nice
for Henderson i honestly want to see the winner of Henderson/Pettis vs the winner of Edgar/Maynard. only seems logical to see who the best lightweight is out of the 2 (now 1) orgs.
and imo is only fair. to see a champ lose his belt without defending it is lame to me. they should automatically get a title shot in my eyes

Edit:ckauffman28 beat me to the match up. and agree but i think it should be winner/winner. Pettis could beat Henderson imo

Hell yes!!!!!!! I can't wait. Fighters will make more $, fans will get more fights, sport will cont. to expand. I just hope there are even more events to make up for the huge roster the UFC will take up. Subsequent statement, I hope they don't "trim the fat" and keep all guys under currrent contract. This is huge. I hope this proves to be as big as it seems right now.
