If the fighters get paid more, I think it's great.
If we don't lose the amount of free cards that WEC provided, I think it's great.
If it means less Frank Mir terrible commentary, I think it's great.

And while I'm not 100% confident the merger means any of those things, I'll miss the smaller cage. The UFC cage means less action, more room to run.

The announcement has the biggest effect on fans and fighters but I think it affects all 3 camps good/bad differently.

WEC Fighters: 50/50. On one hand they will get more exposure and potentially bigger pay, but will they be the same fighters they were in WEC? They were big fish in a small pond in WEC but now its small fish in the fuckin ocean. There def is an adjustment, some will make it and some won't. The headliners should do fine but I worry about the guys lower down the card. Pressure is much bigger in the UFC.

UFC Fighters: 50/50. More competition is good in that when you win it boosts your rep giving you the potential to earn more money and possibly a title fight. But the guys that have been treading water are gonna be in trouble when these WEC guys hungry for the UFC spotlight come in like a tidal wave. Everyone will have to step up their game or get passed by.

Fans: 90/-10. I say -10 because it does suck that we are losing 5 free cards on TV next year, WEC shows were usually damn good top to bottom. But the 4 free shows plus the PPV and Spike events should be awesome with the talent pool and divisions they have now. We should get some great fights next year. But I bet these last 2 WEC shows will be off the hook, trying to go out with a bang. As a fight fan this announcement has me pretty excited. Plus a featherweight or Bantamweight edition of The Ultimate Fighter would be pretty sweet.

I think its a good thing but also a bad thing. I think the WEC would have been a great org to fill alot of the UFC network time. I'm wondering what kind of content they are going to have on the network.

It's absolutley a great move. It will suck for the lower to mid tier WEC LW's as they will probably get cut, but it's exciting that hopefully we see PPV's stacked with exciting fight from top to bottom with the addition of the lighter weights....unfortunatley that will also allow the UFC to up their prices on PPV's...

It's not a good idea...it's a great idea!

1. The best fighters at 145 and 135 will now make a lot more money (imagine how many FOTN bonuses they're going to steal?)
2. The UFC has two more champions and divisions to promote so every PPV card can have a title fight and/or #1 contender bout
3. We won't get stuck with main events like Mir-Cro Cop.

The one thing I don't like is having too many weight classes now. In the past Dana White was quoted as saying he didn't want to be like boxing with too many weight classes, and he was happy to just have four classes at that time. Now they will be up to 7 weight classes. Do you really need a class every 10 pounds for these little guys 155 and under? I'd do a 155 and a 135 tops.
No one has a problem with a lot of weight classes as long as they're seperated with a decent amount of weight inbetween them. And when you get to smaller weight classes the difference in weight between classes should be 10 lbs instead of 15 lbs since the weight differential between classes means much more the lower you go, since it's a higher percentage of the fighters body weight. Honestly in the future I think this is what the weight divisions will eventually have to become once the talent pool deepens so not to force fighters to cut so much weight:

125
135
145
155
165
175
185
205
225
265
