The UFN last week was mediocre at best.
I think they need to find a way to market their fighters more so than the actual fighting aspect. Yes we all watch for the fights, but the casual fans need a reason to watch the fight. Don't WWEize it, but market the fighters.
i | I think they do a fine job of marketing. I think anyone who cares for mma knows what is going on in the UFC more so than in other orgs. They have all the commercials and other media exposure they need imo. I think any drop in ratings could be due to casual viewers, those who go through an "mma is cool" phase and then lose interest. I think the diehard fans are all still watching.

I agree that the ratings drop is probably due to the quality of the product. TUF4 was lackluster, and the last few UFN's haven't had the main headliners, although I enjoy watching Diego and Karo fight a lot.
Do you guys think the UFC "fad" for the casual viewers is wearing off or still going strong? I realize those that follow MMA will always tune in, but I wonder about the rest of the people.

Or is the casual fan losing interest? Those that follow know that this is the prime of the MMA world, with so many opportunities to see MMA, with the IFL, Bodog, WEC, Pride, UFC, K-1. Also, the UFC is picking up some legit talent. My question is, does the casual fan know or care? | The reason the ratings are down is because of the bad ratings for TUF 4. Ratings went up for the last UFN, and there didn't seem to be that much publicity.
and FYI, UFN: Final Conflict was in OCTOBER and it was the most watched UFN ever w/ over a 4.1 rating or something ridiculous like that (anyone who actually looks up the rating, feel free to lemme kno what it really is.).
So, the point that you start out with - "for the past 6 months or so, the UFC's ratings on Spike TV have been less than stellar" - is completely false.

Me personally though, I have lost a lot of interest in the UFC and TUF in general, I watched only 2 full episodes last season, prior to that I had only misses 1-2 episodes of the entire TUF 1-3 combined. I have just had enough with the MTV Real World meets UFC TUF Reality series. They are bringing in TV personalities and not world class fighters which is the problem.
All of my firends that were only aware of the UFC before I introduced them to Pride are not feeling any of the UFC cards since UFC 52 and I was the only one who watched the past UFN. We have only ordered 1 PPV since the AA vs Sylvia III and go figure, the 1 card we have ordered since then was the most recent St. Pierre vs Hughes card which had yet anohter 25 minute Sylvia fight. We will not be ordering the upcoming UFC 66, it is just not PPV worthy, until I see improvement on their cards, I will not order the product. With the additions of Rampage, Herring, possibly Cro Cop, Lindland and Machida, if they do it up right and go for less PPV with stacked cards as opposed to strethcing out these events and putting less talented fighters on the cards just to conduct a few extra PPV events per year, I see it hurting them in the long run as fans WILL start to lose interest.
There are other big companies venturing into MMA who have very deep pockets so I would really like to see UFC implement fihgt cards to their full ability, screw a 27 event per year schedule, your roster is deep enough for a 15 to possibly 17 PPV per year event with stacked cards, it is just not deep enough for a 27 event per year schedule.
Rampage, Herring and Cro Cop (if they get him) will bring a much needed spark to their events IMO because the newer fans just getting into MMA will learn about the other orgs sooner or later through word of mouth, and then the demand for better cards will become vital to the UFC's success, I think they are aware of this and will start stacking cards however it has taken far too long and still, I see n improvement with their cards even on a NYE event, it still looks like any other IFC card, poor co-main event and underskilled undercards.
I would like to see that all change in 07.

Do the 27 shows only deal with the UFC, or would that include the WEC events as well?
