I think the reason was because Rampage and Machida were booked to headline 123 before BJ and Matt's fight was even announced.

Hence BJ vs Hughes added to card later and co-main eventing rather than headllining.

As for Page coming out second...in lieu of a champion, I would assume they go for the hometown fighter or crowd favourite. It doesn't really seem like an issue that really matters though.

Soti and lauzon were up first because the ufc likes to start the ppv of with a fight they think is gonna be exciting as hell

i've asked the EXACT same thing. I was under the impression it's Machida walking out until they showed the tunnel...my friends didn't get it and I explained how Machida was the more recent champ on a much bigger undefeated streak/momentum...still wonder why

How do you figure he has more momentum, he just got KO'ed and won a BS decison right before that????

I just don't hink fighters really care who comes out first. But Rampage was probably the crowd favorite.

Simply because Rampage was the crowd favorite, and in non title fights the crowd favorites generally enter at the end.

I think Rampage is a more popular fighter with casual fans. His personality, antics, and balls to the wall style differentiates them. I actually see his fights posted on HipHop websites.

While I agree, BJ Penn and Hughes have more of a legacy in MMA I'm not sure they're more popular.
