Page had an awesome fight and amongst all this robbery and karma bs the underlying point of the fight is that no one gave Page a chance and he did fucking awesome. I love how he stayed in the pocket and forced Machida to throw punches first at times. Page is one of the best boxers in the UFC, top 3 for sure, and there was all this talk of Machida's style being perfect against Page but I think it was more that both their styles are so perfect for fighting each other it became a stalemate. I still would like to see a rematch and at no point did I think this fight was boring.

Moot point since fights are scored in a round per round basis. That is the reality of the situation. Yes Machida did more in 2 minutes than Page (or himself for that matter) did in the other 13 minutes in the fight but that is not how UFC fights are judged.

I thought Rampage was impressive considering no one gave him a shot. I think Page has a better shot at beating Shogun than Machida does but I would say Shogun is a decent favorite in that fight. Machida could win the belt again if he faces anyone that isn't Shogun.
I agree with everything you said except your doubt for Machida's ability to beat Shogun.

I saw 2-1 rampage but a draw would have been a better decision. I do not see how Machida won on one judge's card.

I also know this fight flew by for me. Had the sound down but it was a fast 15 minutes.

Did it seem Machida backpedaled more in this fight then his previous 4 fights? To me, it seemed he was backpedaling the whole fight. I really believe to beat Machida you have to press him relentlessly and never let him set his feet.

When I went to the bar to watch the fight, my buddies and I only saw the final 1.5 rounds (had hockey before hand). They are not by any means MMA fans, but did have a strong opinion from those 7.5 minutes and I agreed that we were amazed that the fight went to Rampage, but now a couple of days later I have gone back and watched the entire fight twice, both times with the sound off.

I found that this fight could have gone to anyway with the judges, including a shut-out for Machida (Not my opinion but could understand it). It really just came down to which of the 2 judges saw the fight the same. So in my opinion there could have been no wrong decision.

As for how I could have had Machida winning the first round, it was because even though Ramage was coming forward with his punches Machida was "controlling" when the action took place. Even when it looked like a punched connected, to me it seemed as if it was an evasive move and rolling off then the punch landing cleanly and making his head move. Where the leg kicks landed cleaner and to me that would score the same or more then a "rolled" punch. I also found that yes Page would initiate a clinch with Machida against the fence but it was Machida that spent most of the time in control.

I am going to go off on a bit of a tangent here so feel free to not read the rest but,

I think this fight is a perfect example as to why the 10 point system needs to be changed. I don't think it needs a complete overhaul but just a small change. I think you need to a round winner but if the round is as close as the first two rounds were in this fight then giving them something like a 9.5 to 9.0 round would work. This way if someone clearly won the round they could be rewarded with a full point advantage going into the next round but if it was close round then the gap to make up for the next round isn't so big.

You could also go to the 10-10 rounds or call for more 10-8 rounds to make the same effect but I think those would be much harder to get your head around. The 10-10 system works but in most cases I think you should be forced to say that someone one the round. The 10-8 round would create problems because of the ethos that they garner at the moment, it seems hat in order to get a judge to call a round 10-8 the loser would have to put up as much resistance as a grappling dummy.

Hope I made some points about 1) the fight and how I saw it and 2) maybe made a case for a scoring change.

Kai

Im positive I'm not the reason. When people make claims that Dana is somehow paying the judges off so one of "his" fighters can win is utterly classless, couldn't be remotely backed up with any type of proof, and is just tacky. Making posts stating that the UFC/Dana are slave owners and a black fighter is their slave is tacky and classless. The rare time I say something dumb, at least I own up to it and apologize. The anti-UFC, anti-Dana rhetoric is just old at this point. It's WillPunisher all over again.
