| Scott Coker - Not interested in signing Gerald Harris Bloody Elbow - Pound-for-Pound the Best in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Commentary, News and Community Quote:
Scott Coker tells Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour that Strikeforce is not interested in signing Gerald Harris:
"I talked to my guys about it, actually, they talked to me about it," Coker said of signing Harris. "I watched the fight [against Falcao], I didn't know how to judge it. Then they told me about his background and his past and things you are telling me now, that this guy is a tremendous athlete (who) has a ton of potential and just had bad showing or fought very cautious to try and win the fight.
"The only thing right now is we are really committed to the fighters we have under contract now and I want to make sure these guys get in the mix two or three next year. That doesn't mean we can't revisit with him, but for right now, I would say that I want to take care of the roster we currently have."

Hahahahahaha, he signs every other UFC reject, so why not Harris. Really though, Coker needs to sign guys that have never fought, or never lost a fight in the UFC. That way I believe it adds more credibility to Strikeforce, rather then saying "Oh, that guy lost 2 of 3 fights in the UFC, but we'll get him anyway."

Nobody ever accused Coker of being a genius anyway. I guess Harris is willing to fight too regularly to sign with Strikeforce. Maybe Harris should drag-ass, fake injuries, etc. and fight 1-2x/year...then Strikeforce would be all over his ass. Harris will string 2-3 wins together, then we'll see him back in 2011 in the UFC.

But i agree with your assesment that he'll be back in the UFC. that is if Bellator doesn't snatch him up and make something out of him.
In my mind, Coker stating that he wants to focus on the talent he has now makes me think he's stretched Strikeforce too thin in 2010 and i feel like they're hurting right now. there's no reason why he wouldn't pick up a solid fighter. the only stacked division they have is Heavyweight, why wouldn't he want to bolster one of the other faltering divisions? maybe i'm just reading too much into it or something, but that really confuses me

You can't put quotes around something Coker didn't say. Maybe I missed it twice, but that isn't a quote from the article.

Great talent but not all that deep...would have been great to add a guy like Harris to bolster the division but Coker is not an intelligent businessman so that's that.

harris likes to fight more than sf's avg of twice a year... Harris could have easily fought 5 times this year in ufc. Im sure he will get something in line before the end of jan and bounce back
