Todd Duffee Turned Down an Offer to Face Antonio Silva on Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu - Bloody Elbow

When Alistair Overeem's brother, Valentijn, went down with an injury, Strikeforce was scrambling to find a suitable replacement to face the #10 ranked heavyweight, Antonio Silva. They eventually settled with Mike Kyle, but they did make an offer to a more familiar name -- former top UFC heavyweight prospect, Todd Duffee (7-1). According to Josh Gross, he didn't want to fight on short notice:

Now managed by Monte Cox. Turned down Strikeforce, Bellator offers... Duffee was offered Antonio Silva on short notice and didn't take it. Looks like he might fight in January on a smaller show.

Can't blame Duffee for not taking on such a tough opponent without getting the proper time to prepare, as it could have been another unnecessary dent on the 24-year-old's career. We haven't heard much from him since his UFC release, and while there were also rumors swirling about him joining the WWE, Todd quickly debunked them:

Huh? What does him turning down this fight have to do with the UFC exactly? Nobody wants to take a fight on such short notice (unless you are a guy like Kyle who has been fighting on such smaller shows and wants to get his name in the spotlight) so I doubt anyone would be calling bigfoot a coward if he were to turn down a fight on a weeks notice regardless of who the fight was against.

Who can't blame the guy for turning down a fight with a top 10 ranked HW on what a weeks notice?

id dont want to bash him but win or lose a good outing against bigfoot on short notice would have done wonders for his career and especially in gaining the respect of fans, i think he should have taken the fight, sometime fighter try to be too smart with their career choices whatever happened to a fighting spirit being the compass

Kid is only 25 well will be Monday he's 6-1 with 6 knock outs why does he need to rush into a fight with bigfoot? He has plenty potential and time to hone his skills. I wouldn't take the fight if I were him. Might ruin my birthday weekend lol.

smart move but woulda been a cool addition. Im surprised no one has reported them add Benji Radech vs Ovince St. Preux. Weird having an adition to the main card announced 6 days before the fight. Unless it was announced before but I didnt think so.

I love the UFC. MMM-mmm-mm! U-F-C baby. Putting on all the fights I love to see and endlessly waste my time talking about to everyone on here everyday, month after month... year after year. The best fighters in the world and everything. Yep... Good old UFC. Still standing, too.

I don't think anyone who is taken seriously on these boards really commits to a nationalistic type approach to any promotion and I don't think anyone really cares about the name of the promotion as long as they're professional, and put on great fights. (UFC does not equal Dana White)
