Wanderlei Silva Interested In Competing On Rumored UFC Card In Brazil

In what seems to stand in stark contrast with his vicious in-cage demeanor, Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva is generally one of the most polite and genial fighters outside of the cage. His Wand Fight Team gym was just recognized as "Gym of the Year" at the 2010 World MMA Awards and he expressed his gratitude for receiving the honor in a conversation with R7.com. "I was honoured with this award. I was very surprised and happy," he said. "The academy is just two years old but I have got a large experience in fights. When they asked the secret for success I always say 'that's because I built the gym for me'. Everything I always wanted for training, I put in my gym."

Also during the conversation, Silva revealed his desire to return to his home country on a UFC card--as it has been widely rumored that the promotion is planning a trip back to Brazil in 2011.

"Look, I don't know whether the fans of UFC in Brazil would like to see me but if the UFC comes to Brazil I want to fight for sure," he said. "I've been in great contact with Brazilian fans through Twitter and my blog. They're wonderful. It would be great to come back supported by them."

Silva has been called out by a number of fighters (most with respect) as an opponent they would like to face. Michael Bisping, Chris Leben and Chael Sonnen have all indicated a desire to face "The Axe Murderer" and any of those fights would provide an exciting spectacle for Brazilian fans.

Mike or Chris would be good. I dont want Wandy to fight Chael.

i wasnt gonna make a giant list. just naming some possible fights. i was hoping other people would join in.

I dont know what the situation is with Renzo Gracie is but he would be a big home crowd name the UFC could throw in there.
