We need to get pictures to compare: Koscheck's broken orbital vs Brandon Vera's broken orbital....those were pretty vicious looking

Wow when you land 6 strikes on average a round how are supposed to win? He really counted on being able to k.o GSP with one. I was waiting the whole time for Josh to shoot or let his hands go... neither happened. With his eye I would have thought he would have been shooting every other jab

I’m so thoroughly disappointed in Koscheck’s game plan, and feel like it was an absolute waste of a title shot. It’s like he assumed that if he could keep the fight standing all he needed to do was land the overhand right and that would be all she wrote. Come to think of it, I’m pretty sure that was his game plan in the first fight, so neg’d for lack of innovation in his fight strategy. For all his talk about how his game has evolved – and while he was more competitive in his wrestling – his tired, played out strategy on the feet doomed his effort from the get go.

One of the most shocking things about the results is that Koscheck only threw three leg kicks in the entire fight. THREE. A steady diet of thumping leg kicks (preferably at the end of punching combinations thrown with the emphasis on speed and technique, not power) could have slowed GSP up over time, accumulated points, prevented GSP form dictating the striking range and most importantly, reduced the effectiveness of GSP’s jab. If he could have got GSP checking them then it could have opened the door for takedowns as well.

GSP is an incredibly talented fighter who may go on to be one of the greatest of all time – if he isn’t there already. He certainly doesn’t need any assistance from his opponent in the form of a deeply flawed game-plan to win in dominant fashion.
I don't know, when you get you're orbital bone broken 30 seconds into the fight pretty much your whole gameplan gets thrown out the window.

Fair comment.

Rule 3: NEVER attempt to mediate in a flame-war between GSP and BJ Penn nuthuggers debating GSP/Penn II. It won't end well.

This is very true. For e.g. look at Wandy when he was 30, very damaged, night and day between these two.

Can someone explain to me why it deserved a Fight of the Night?

One of the most lopsided decision victories by GSP in his career (strongly due to his gameplan) and Josh gets a bonus?

Undeserving. Other fights on the card deserved it....fights on the undercard Rafael Natal vs Bongfeldt deserved it or Sean Pierson vs Matt Riddle....or John Makdessi vs Audinwood. Makdessi vs Audinwood was a dominant performance but Audinwood kept moving forward and throwing punches. Josh kept moving forward and then not throwing...then getting punched in the face 2-3 times and then throwing a punch into the air.

I think they gave Josh the bonus because he was respectful and quashed the whole situation and tried to defuse the fans and make himself likable....nothing to do with his performance in the cage. The Kos that Kos was trying to tell the world about didn't show up.

In my opinion he did not deserve the bonus.....maybe give GSP a domination bonus, but just being there to punch doesn't warrant a bonus. Maybe I'm just being hard on him, but I think there were other fighters on the card that have much smaller contracts and earned far less money for fighting much harder than Josh did...risking far more than Josh did. Josh had a shot at the belt and with 40 seconds left in the last round he was simply looking up at the clock for the fight to finish....he had given up and wasn't risking everything he could do.

I think Josh got the bonus for being a good company man, not for being a Fight of the Night.

There were 2 submissions and both guys split $50k....on a card that has over 4.6 million at the gate.....Lesnar vs Velasquez got a little more than HALF of that.

I was surprised that there weren't more bonus' dealt out....but this doesn't have much to do with fight metrics.

Back to CompuStrike or fight metrics...the UFC really needs to start tracking that shit during the fight. Numerous times during the Kos vs GSP fight me and my friends really wanted to know the numbers on how many jabs GSP threw and it sucks that it takes 2 days just for that information to come out (officially) I am sure the UFC has someone on staff that could keep tally on strikes....Strikeforce car do it with the help or CompuStrike.

PS....guess most my post belonged here - http://www.mmanews.com/forums/genera...-its-over.html

We see rivethead posting a lot about the importance of the reach advantage that GSP has on many opponents.

I think Koscheck should have read a few of them.
