Just looking at the fightmetric report and didnt notice it posted....

GSP landed 136 total strikes to KOS' 30,
GSP 110 "significant" strikes to KOS' 16.......
50 of which were the stiff lead jab

maybe one of the most one sided striking beatdowns.....


BJ vs Sanchez, Anderson vs Franklin, come to mind in dominant striking title fights but wow what a dominant win for GSP. He has to be the best at making game plans and following them to perfection.

Those are crazy stats, he out struck Kos 45-7 in the last two rounds. You don't see something like that very often, whether you wanted a finish or not. 45-7 to close out a fight is out of hand

The crazy thing is I dont remember Kos landing 30 strikes that fight. After the fight, GSP was so dominant, I didn't feel Kos really GSP at all.

Insane stats right there. I really have no idea at this point in time how you can take the man out anymore. He has perfected all areas of the sport whether it is defense or offense.

The scarier part of all this is that he is only reaching his physical peak as a fighter at the age of 29. He still has another 2-3 years until he is out of his prime.

This would be true with most fighters. But the scariest thing about GSP is that since he has basically taken no damage in over 3 years (first Serra fight), he could still be competing at a high level for another 5 or so years. Most guys start to fall out of their prime because they have taken some damage along the way. But really when was the last time we say GSP leave with a mark on his face?

There are other forms of damage than marks on a face. You also have take into consideration the nagging injuries that happen in training that is not usually revealed to the public. Fighters take a lot of abuse to their body while training constantly. Also, GSP's has had a history of knee injuries and had the groin injury in the Alves fight. A string of these can add up over time.

Given all that, it's still tough to say what the duration of "prime years" are in MMA. I think the level of training and combat is very different when compared to the other sports including boxing that it may be possible to compete at a high level for a greater amount of years.

Shields is a better grappler and possibly a better wrestler. Penn and Silva are better strikers. Those are just the names of people GSP could be fighting, Sonnen could be a better wrestler and Machida is a better striker for sure. GSP is the most well rounded fighter next to Fedor though which is what I think you were trying to say.

As for fightmetric, I actually thought GSP landed more jabs than that but it is still crazy he landed so much with such little risk in taking damage in return.

Man oh man, watching it live it was obvious Koscheck was taking a whuppin’, but seeing it broken down like that just displays with stark clarity exactly how outclassed he was in the striking game by GSP.

I’m so thoroughly disappointed in Koscheck’s game plan, and feel like it was an absolute waste of a title shot. It’s like he assumed that if he could keep the fight standing all he needed to do was land the overhand right and that would be all she wrote. Come to think of it, I’m pretty sure that was his game plan in the first fight, so neg’d for lack of innovation in his fight strategy. For all his talk about how his game has evolved – and while he was more competitive in his wrestling – his tired, played out strategy on the feet doomed his effort from the get go.

One of the most shocking things about the results is that Koscheck only threw three leg kicks in the entire fight. THREE. A steady diet of thumping leg kicks (preferably at the end of punching combinations thrown with the emphasis on speed and technique, not power) could have slowed GSP up over time, accumulated points, prevented GSP form dictating the striking range and most importantly, reduced the effectiveness of GSP’s jab. If he could have got GSP checking them then it could have opened the door for takedowns as well.

GSP is an incredibly talented fighter who may go on to be one of the greatest of all time – if he isn’t there already. He certainly doesn’t need any assistance from his opponent in the form of a deeply flawed game-plan to win in dominant fashion.<O:p

Once again he proves why he is the best P4P fighter in the world hands-down.

I'm glad GSP didn't finish Koscheck....I loved every minute of the ass whooping....I just loved watching Kos whince when they tried to put the ice on his eye.
