Further, it is still my contention that GSP has NEVER stepped up a weight class to fight let alone a former champion in that weight class. He has fought 2 former champions from the weight class below him.

Now, quality of opponents:

Anderson Silva: 2 HOF'ers (Henderson, Franklin ), 3 former champions (Henderson, Griffin, and Franklin *A little known fact here is that James Irvin is also a former HW champion in WEC but I will overlook that as the WEC HW Championship is not highly regarded and rightfully so), 1 Olympic Wrestler, 1 National champion wrestler, and an ADCC champion. Anderson has faced 4 legitimate BJJ Black Belts (Maia, Leites, Marquardt, and Lutter)

GSP: 2 HOF'ers (Penn, Hughes), 4 Former champions (Hughes, Penn, Sherk, and Serra), 1 D1 National Champion Wrestler, 1 D2 National Champion Wrestler, and a world JJ Champion (Penn). GSP has faced 3 legitimate BJJ Black Belts (Penn, Serra, and Fitch- Mayhem did not have his yet)

I won't debate that Georges has faced the stiffer comp but it's hardly a landslide.

I'll give you that GSP has never stepped up in a weight class but you can't fault him for never fighting a former champion of MW. Silva is the current champ, Franklin fights at LHW and Tanner is dead. The LHW division, on the other hand, has a wealth of former champs, and they are all still alive.

Anderson is a great fighter and yes he did eventually beat Sonnen however he had some weaknesses exposed. He certainly wasn't dominant in that fight in any fashion. GSP may have lost to Serra, yes the important strike was to the back of the head but not illegal as Serra didn't intend to do that, but that doesn't expose any weaknesses. Barring training to hit a glancing forearm across the back of GSP's head there is nothing his opponents could learn from that fight. Anderson on the other hand is going to have his hands full with wrestlers, or any contender for that matter, because they will be emboldened by Sonnen's performance.

Anderson's title reign is a stack of Jenga blocks and it's coming to an end soon because Sonnen just pulled out like blocks.
