Call it cocky or overconfidence, it isn't a good thing either way. |

he probably had a better chance of subbing miller since his bjj is awesome then would getting out on bottom with a bigger wrestler on top of him. i dont see it as cocky at all. however, they way he came in at the weighins and even the walkout was some cocky shit he had like a separate pair of clothes over his sponsored clothes so he could rock the baggy jeans big chain shit. i didnt think it translated into his actual fighting though but thats jsut me. |

Oliveira is an outstanding fighter and this loss will make him a lot better of a fighter, I can say that confidently. Miller is also a great fighter and the fight could have gone either way. Miller has an underrated ground game and he won the fight. Both are great fighters and Oliveira has much potential and this loss will make him a hell of a lot better. |

He was cocky....when he saw Miller go for the toe hold he could care less and started hammerfisting the ribs, he could have easily just turned his leg out and kept turning out of it. Call it cocky or disregard for Miller's ground game. If you can submit a guy like Duane Ludwig or you can control Mark Bocek for 2 rounds and not get in any danger, then you should respect their ground game. Definitely a learning experience and I hope it doesn't change his ferocity and his aggressiveness. Thinking that Miller is predominately a wrestler was wrong....one of the strongest wrestlers in the Miller family, but probably one of the best strikers of the Miller's and maybe the 3rd best Miller on the ground....behind his cousins Cole and Micah. Jim is a great fighter and I hope he gets a shot. He is so well rounded in all aspects and he has demonstrated that he can put together a great gameplan. |

also i dont get how a black belt submitting a purple belt is considered an upset. |
My own interpretation of what happened was this - Oliveira has an extremely, extremely active game from his back, he was working for triangles and all sorts of submissions from his back and was extremely aggressive. I think this was his downfall, he partly underestimated Miller's ground game in so far as he was not concerned with his submission defence and what opportunities he was affording Miller when he was working unsuccessfully for submission. I think this is why Oliveira was so surprised when he got caught, because he genuinely didn't see it coming because he wasn't that concerned. I don't think it's cocky, I just think it was, as he said, a silly mistake. I'm sure Oliveira will come back stronger in the next fight and more aware of the holes in his BJJ game. I can't wait to see him fight again, I love watching his fluid BJJ and it's a shame the fight ended so early and we didn't get to see more. |
