This feels like a little bait on Couture's part to see if the UFC and Machida's camp are willing to give it a shot. He's not calling Machida outright, but seeing if he'd get a response that Machida'd be down.
I said it a while ago, but the Machida matchup is win-win for Randy. A retirement match in defeat vs. a top five LHW where he goes out guns blazing against one of the best OR a feelgood upset victory against a top contender, which would be a sound argument for a retirement title fight vs. the LHW champion.
I understand IF Machida's camp and/or the UFC are tenative to give Randy a match vs. Machida because between the dirtyboxing, grappling, cardio and really underrated boxing, that could definately spell trouble or at least a legitimate challenge for Lyoto and three straight isn't something anybody wants. With that being said, right now Machida is faaaaaar better than your Franklins or Forrests at the moment, so a Randy matchup not only spells money, but is a solid LHW main event.
And as I always say, there's always interest and support for Randy Couture and a showdown with Machida is promising for all sides IMO, especially Randy.
